I switched to London Energy in the autumn and i'm very happy with them (they also give nectar points) At the moment I use Southern Electric for my electricity but will change that to London Energy soon. I would use nearly any company but British Gas, I've had too many problems with them - I wouldn't use them even if they were the cheapest...

I have always been with the same suppliers since I first started renting 6yrs ago. To be honest I never know where to go for the best deals and I am scared of changing only to be left with a worse/more expensive suppllier a few months down the line.
I want to change suppliers especially now BG have put up there prices but I gat confused with who to go with as comparrisons seem baffling i.e online/dual fuel/ green tarif/saver tarif who knows

I probably sound very stupid but I don't want to jump from one supplier ( BG and Southern Electric) to a poor performing/expensive one. The other big issue for me is that now BG have announced price rises whats stopping the rest anyway

Ho Hum have to think on it

  • We switch suppliers quite often but we know of an elderley couple who have remained with British Gas and the original electricity company (npower) and refuse to move to another provider because "British Gas installed the pipes and MEB installed the wiring outside their home".

I've tried and tried but they get hostile and abusive and it always ends with me being accused of being un-patriotic to the country. They are convinced that Powergen is a German company and we somehow always end up on the topic of the Second World War  :rotfl: They really don't mind paying over £400 than we are despite the same size house, fewer occupants etc.

Anyway, I guess I'll nominate them, not because they'll switch, but because it's guaranteed to provide a few minutes of pure unblemished comedy to the nation while they abuse Martin for being what they believe to be a German Spy!! :rotfl:

  • Powergen ARE a german company (Eon). So are NPower (RWE!)

And EDF (Energie de France) are French who sell gas to British Gas at twice the price they pay for it.

Maybe EDF are in the driving seat and maybe the one to watch.

EDF companies have always been the ones that have come out best for us. But the REAL savings on a like-for-like basis have been much less than touted around. As posted before, don't believe the 'switch' sites - do your own calculations using actual usage and unit rates.

Last year, there was a website somewhere that showed the pricing status of different companies and which had already moved prices and which had yet to do so. Can anyone remember what it was/is called?
  • We're always checking prices - currently on best deal in our area with NPower. Checked the other day, and still on the cheapest.

Stopped using Uswitch for comparisons last time I switched (6 months)because they were not displaying all the tariffs that existed for our then current supplier (Scottish Power) including the deal we were on.....

Started using Energyhelpline as it seemed to have more tariffs listed. Also took the £12.50 cashback too - every little helps :j

Are you one of those annoying door to door sales people ?

Because all the above is exactly what I would say to anyone trying to get me to change. People do not like change.

I will probably change sooner or later, but will do it in my own time, and not because someone is breathing down my neck :D

Am I one of the few people happy with British gas at the moment.I froze my electricity prices with them with no penalties in 2004 until this April.I then took advantage of their price freeze last November paying a premium of 2.6% for gas and a reduction of 5% for electricity until APRIL 2010,so I wont be paying that 22% rise in April, and wont have to worry bout it for next 4years either.Must admit only time I thought Martins advice about waiting before you switch,a bit wrong. No other company offered such a long term offer as British gas ..oh well gotta go,need to turn the heating up..

I'm a family friend concerned about their constant moaning and whining about how little money they get when they could solve that by switching suppliers. I'm not an 'annoying door to door sales person'.
