We cant stress enough that your presence is our special gift, however if you do you want to buy us a token we are having a traditional gift list at www.wherever.com, or would be eternally grateful for donations to our dream honeymoon in Hawaii.
What do you think? Be honest!
Sorry to hijack the thread, sexy legs, I love your wording btw!
Don't worry, I'll let you off he he, to be honest I have also copied it from a guy at works invitation, as its short and to the point. Not sure I like the poems, I think they are a bit long, but it depends how your putting things together, mine is on an information sheet which will be printed on card along with map that goes inside the invitation card0 -
yeah I know, I got a poem off a friend inhers, and even though I knew she was doing it I still cringed a bit! Its such a mix of ages thats why its so hard!Compulsive Spendaholic #150

Wedding Gifts: We do not have a wedding list as your attendance is all we expect. However should you wish to give us a gift, Thomas Cook Gift Vouchers would be gratefully appreciated
Vouchers are available online at: https://www.voucherexpress.co.uk/VERSE/thomascook/index.aspx
or do I not put anything in about gifts and just let guests decide for themselves.
Its a difficult one.
Thanks for any opinions
I'm not keen on the 'your attendance is all we expect'. it sort of sounds like an order iyswim (As in, 'we expect' this to be done):o I think it's fine to ask for a contribution towards youer honeymoon though.
I personally never put any request in - most people will ask our mothers who will suggest cash, so I didn't need to bother.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. This topic comes up all the time, and my opinion has never changed... no way am I putting anything in my invites, especially the poems which people think are a nice way of asking but just come across as very tacky. I don't want gifts, money, vouchers etc, I genuinely just want people to share my day so there is no need for me to include anything in the invites.
If people really go down that route, I would suggest sending stuff out when you have the acceptances, or even just doing the 'traditional' thing and getting your mum, MIL etc to tell guests if they enquire.
One thing I hate is people asking for donations for honeymoons, I don't see the honeymoon as part of the wedding and if people cannot afford it, then they should cut their cloth accordingly or wait until they can. If I had an invite which asked for contributions for the honeymoon I wouldn't be giving the couple cash or vouchers thats for sure.0 -
This is difficult but i think i am going to have a folded piece of paper in the invites that is seled with a bitof sellotape, on the outside i'll put something like
your presence not your presents are requested, however if you would like to get us something please open me for gift ideas.
I plan to ask for b+q vouchers and will state what they are for - fireplace, tiled floor and that any contribution wil make lasting contibution to our home
then i will have a v small gift list at debenhams with some cheapish items on, and put if they can't find anything on there then photo frames to remind us of our day would be really appreciated.Had a thrifty wedding 17-06-10

How funny - I clicked on your link thinking "oh I don't know that company":DLove MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
I just got sent an evening invitation and they had a note in their card for more info on the wedding ect please see their wedding path website.
i went and had a look as I was thinking about directions and on the website it had a gift registry page where they said about money rather than gifts.
i thought that was quite good - because although they dont specifically mention it in the invites, folk are likely to find out and it doesn't come off as pushy /cheeky.0 -
My sister is getting married in May, she and her fiance just build a house together last year, so they have everything they need.
She put out their invites a couple weeks ago and had a little poem inside, It was the one that starts 'we know its not tradition, its not how it is done, but instead of a wedding list, we'd like a bit of sun........' They have recieved quite well and as far as we know everyone is happy about it.
They set up an account in a local travel agent and they got a code to give to guests to contribute to the cost of the honeymoon if they wish and they travel agent will print off a list later of who gave what and when and then change all the money into the currency they require.
I thought it was a good idea instead of getting 3 toasters and all the rest!0 -
it's difficult isn't it. I think a small minority of people are still offended by any mention of gifts in a wedding invite. But again it is only a minority of THEM that don't realise it's more and more common these days.
My mum and dad were setting up home together when they got married in '76, and she tells me that she made two notebooks, one for each family, and on each page was written something they would like on the top and bottom of the page. the bottom of the page would be ripped out by someone who decided to buy that for them. She gave one to her mum and one to her MIL2B and whenever anyone asked them about gifts they would be sent the notebook!
so it isn't a new problem! We'll be buying our first house together so need quite a lot of stuff, so I was going to do the same, and leave gift list details with the mums, but then we have had a few wedding invites recently, and they all politely mention it with the obligatory "your presence is our best present but if you insist.." or "we do not expect any gifts but if you must...". So I think we're just going to bite the bullet and do the same thing.0 -
We have already reduced from 2 houses to one, so definitely don't need another toaster! I think we will go for either Thomas Cook vouchers, or John Lewis / Debenhams / M&S vouchers for replacing household stuff when needed.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇
