Billed twice when switching

I recently switched from Sky BB to BTBB. I got my MAC from Sky and provided this to BT.
I've just got my latest Sky bill through and they're charging me for BB. When I called up, I was told that the service was still active and being used (it's not - I checked the data flow with a traceroute). They're refusing to refund the money because they say
1. I didn't cancel the service until I called tonight (thought this was done when BT provided the MAC to them)
2. My contract says that I must give them 30 days notice to cancel
I had a look at Sky BB T&C's and it does say that I'm supposed to give one calendar months notice, but surely I shouldn't be getting billed twice for switching.
Thoughts/suggestions welcome

I've just requested my pac code from sky 2 days ago to join o2 there was no mention of also having to give 1 months notice aswell. They just said the broadband will stop once o2 take over and sky will stop charging for this from that point.0

I thought 30 days notice was pretty much standard terms?
Getting your MAC is not giving notice, it's just an 'option to quit' within 30 days, after which it expires. No free lunch, and no free laptop
