The Metro's are definitely more expensive than a standard Tesco, and I find Tesco in general is substantially more expensive than Asda. They play little tricks too, such as loose bananas being sold for 19p each rather than by weight.

lucky you! I had a quite embarrassing visit in Dymchurch express trying to pay with my luncheon vouchers - they explained to me they were "different" from the main Tescos and metros. I wonder if that's true?

I noticed yesterday that the big tesco's has started to charge per sausage from the fresh meat counter rather like Sainbugs do and not by the kilo
  • When ours first started to open last spring it was expensive to cater for people in surrounding holiday lets. Now the do have offers and have bread/rolls on reduced and other offers. I did top up shop fruit, bread, milk,(2ltr for 96p), wraps(16 for £1-50) it came to about £7. If I had to take 4 yr old or siblings into town it would have been a lot more expensive and stressful:eek: . Limited stock but you tend to find out what is ok to buy if you run out and what you can wait to get elsewhere.:D
    Grocery challenge june £300/ £211-50.
    Grocery challenge july £300/£134-85.

I have a mega large Tesco just up the road, and three Tesco Express nearby. I find that tje Express is a bit more expensive and I avoid it at all costs.

Ah what I expected to be honest.

Both Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys are a good 15/20 minute drive away. We do a weekly shop in Asda on a Friday or Saturday and can almost run out of milk, bread, etc. (ration it to avoid running out!)

The nearest shop is a CO-OP, which we find general expensive so avoid shopping there! i guess it all depends on how big this store is actually going to be, I've found out that work is due to start in a week or two - they are expecting it to 'fly up!'.

LOL I also have a co-op nearby, opened a couple of years ago. I won't even go into it because I know they are more expensive than other stores. I;'m lucky to be in a well served London area so I have all stores nearby, including a Morrisons but I'm not to keen on their quality especially meat. I tend to use the large Tesco and the Asda.

That said, since I try to buy organic food as much as I can, I often use smaller, more expensive shops, but these are planned expenses and I tend to save on other things - ie, I buy house cleaning stuff in Netto.
