Tesco Express: Expensive?

We have just heard that work is soon to start on a Tesco Express for our small 10 year old development of houses. If we need anything then it is either a car trip or go without!

I'm not a fan of Tesco but glad to have something within walking distance should we run out of milk or bread!

I have heard Tesco Express is typically expensive compared to it's big stores? Does anyone know how much more expensive?

    If this:

is to be believed, then 26% (Feb 08). Mind you, they have an agenda of course!

I find that things tend to be a couple of pence or so more but not massively expensive. And at the end of the day, it is a convenience store!

TEnd to find tesco express are more expensive simply because they don't stock value/low end brands, but set agains the cost of driving out to get milk/bread/spread/cereal it is still a bargain (as long you stick to just getting what you actually went in for!).

    I've been Money Tipped!
Very similar to Sainbury's Local, a few pence more with obviously limited stock - but adequate.

I think the difference is a few pence per pound. Off the top of my head, a multi-pack of Mini Cheddars is £1 in Tesco at the moment and £1.06 in Tesco Express.

obvious i know but i rarely go to our tesco express because of the limited range...if its not a paper milk or cigs...they dont sell it
    onwards and upwards
  • I also think that the difference between tesco prices and tesco express prices is a few pence. i only tend to go to tesco express on a sunday before the 'big' tesco opens for papers and brekkie things.
    ;)
  • prices are a few pence more and still get good offers. staff are more friendly and will go out of their way to help you and service is quicker.

Also not such a wide range, probably no large sizes, and they don't take luncheon vouchers but often stay open much longer hours like corner shops. Have got some good reduced to clears in them sometimes :D
