trip to turkey in june, bit worried

I'm starting to get myself very stressed out at the moment. Myself and the other half have got a fortnight's holiday booked to Turkey at the end of june.

I'm desparately trying to lose weight because I'm petrified that I won't fit into the seats on the planes. I'd be mortified if I had to buy an extra seat. Chris has already said that we can pull the arm up in between us (if possible) to make a little bit easier. But, I get embarassed easily enough as it is.

Has anyone on here flown with Thomas Cook recently, and got an idea as to how tightly we're going to be squashed in?

The armrest has to be down for take off and landing and also when the seat belt sign is on, ie in turbulence.

We flew with Thomas Cook last May to Egypt and found they were quite spacious. We were on a plane that had this layout...2 seat row, 3 seat row, 2 seat row.

It seemed like they were quite sensible with seating - all couples were in the 2 seat rows.

Don't be stressing! Don't let it ruin your holiday, you're supposed to look forward to it :D

I'm sure you'll be fine, you could always contact customer services to put your mind at rest.

Quick thought - if you look at your booking or flight it might say what type of plane it is. Then you should be able to find something on the internet about the layout and size of the seats?

Thank you for replying :) I'm really excited about it all, it's just that one thing niggling in the back of my mind. Chris kinda keeps on at me that I will be fine and the last time he went on holiday he saw people bigger than me on the plane. I'm not enormous but am on the chubby side lol. I went to Tunisia a few years ago and fit into Thomaon's seats with no problem, I am slightly bigger now, but there shouldn't be too much difference hopefully ;)

It is early March and you are going late June, so over 3 months to go, so perhaps not to worry too much.

don't worry you will be fine, I am very large and only problem I have is seat belt and I just ask for a seat belt extension and during flight like already sugegsted put armrest up.

I go away about twice a year and used to squeeze into normal seatbelt but do not bother now and always see bigger people than me in the airport lol

    have a lovely holiday
    TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T

All Thomas cook Planes ( that are mentioned) are 17'' width.

    For the seat lay out.

I am a chubba :rotfl: 22stone 6' 2 and 48'' waist . I Fly Ryan air very often and find them ok with armrest down.

If you do not pre book seats on Thomas cook (not sure never flown them) then when you board if its a 3 seater row leave a gap in between you and Partner( you well get funny looks and moans for leaving middle seat but we all pay the same so entitled to sit where we want on a free for all seating arranagment.

Worse case is you need the extension belt bit but that is what it is there for.

Don't stress its your holiday .... you have 14 weeks to go lose 1/2lb a week and hey presto you lost 1/2 stone and no stress pre arrival at the airport ........ there is a challenge for you  we are all routing for you then come back and say you had a great time :j

My friend is pretty big (she's over 6ft and bigger than size 20) and she could fit in easily - although she had to ask for a seatbelt extender. I'm sure you will be fine!

Thank you for all the replies, I'm feeling a lot more relaxed about it now, can't wait for the next few months to go so that I can get on the beach and have some fun :)

Think this will be our first proper holiday (just me and Chris) since we got together 2 years ago

I think I will need the seat belt extender, but I don't mind, will ask someone as I get on the plane as everyone else will probably be too busy to realise. Are night flights quieter? Because we leave at 20.55 (UK time) will the flight be quieter?

Nite time flights can be as busy as day time flights, but please dont worry. If you have to ask for an extension for seat belt the staff are very discreet. Also, most passengers are more interested in whats going on for them not anyone else. Njoy
