I am looking for some info on the best internet provider for my brother in kaw- so this thread is very useful.
    Thanks everyone for their posts.

Just to add my opinion - we have had great service with BT and although I know they are pricey we need a reliable service for hubby's work so would reccomend BT. We recently got a free home hub and phone with our package too.

  • I've been with tiscali for a year now. when I signed up I asked for the £19.99 deal. unlimited internet and free landline calls. since then they've charged me at least £28 a month because apparently northern ireland or my area doesn't qualify me for the £19.99 a month. I queried this since the contract I signed up to had now changed.

    hmmmm

am wanting to move providers too but don't know how it works as I pay them for the land line. any advice?

You can take your line rental with you to another provider, if they offer line rental, or leave it where it is. Taking broadband does not commit you to taking line rental from the same provider.

Do I need to get a MAC code or something from tiscali? sorry for the ignorance....

We have been with Tiscali for the internet for years and, on the whole, have been perfectly happy with very few problems after the initial set up.

However, I am well aware that we could get a much better deal, financially speaking, by switching to a phone and internet package (our phone is currently with Talk Talk so could add the internet to that)

What has been holding me back is worries about whether there will be any teething problems with the switch over, the hassle of letting everyone know our new email addresses (which include our home business) and whether the customer service or internet quality will be worse with a new provider

Can anyone recommend a provider or comment on Talk Talk's service and how to ensure a good changeover?
After reading other comments I'm worried when asking for the MAC code that we will be disconnected before our new service is up and running.
Are there any providers with UK call centres and great customer service?

I am now at the end of my tether with the HUGE amount of spam emails (despite bullguard spam filter which I constantly "train" but with only partial success) we get every day and think that changing our email address will help.

Would be most grateful to hear from you.

    Many thanks for reading

Hi or you could upgrade your phone to Tiscali they have a package I am on it so i know Phone, broadband. phonecalls, £19.99 anytime phonecalls to Local, 01 & 02 numbers (I think you can add a mobile for free or a little charge i am not sure about that bit) your line rental and up to 8mps broadband. Obviously you have never tried to leave talk talk  If you want to leave Tiscali its easy you just say and they send you a MAC code. I was with Pipex who have been taken over by Tiscali was with pipex before and left to go to Talk Talk  but soon whent back to Pipex/Tiscali when the year was up well it was actually a year and a half before i managed to get the mac code off Talk Talk and nearly 6months later to stop them billing me even though they gave me a MAC code but by this time i had to phone a premium rate number ewww never again even if they payed me bad memories starting to shake now nightmares bye and good luck

Yes, to move your broadband you ask them for a MAC, which you give to your new provider. You do not cancel with them. Once you have it it lasts 30 days. NB: this will not migrate your line rental or call package, it is for broadband only.
This assumes you are already out of contract, if not they will require you to pay up the balance due on the contract first.

There are alot of people not happy with o2 broadband here, they have too many customers so speed is very slow and also complaints about disconnections - I wouldn't recommend them at all and am looking to change from them too.. Hope that helps, just look up o2 threads and you'll see the comments..

I can only speak from my own experience and those known to me and I have had no problems. The o2 CS and pricing is good so if they can sort out the capacity issues they should be OK.

There are lots of people suffering from constant disconnections so maybe it depends on where you live? Who knows... The service was good at one point but lately it's dire and although customer services are nice and helpful, it's no good if you can't get logged on..
