Orange Pay Monthly - Tariff Change Woes

Hi all,

I took out a £40 a month contract with Orange in May last year.

Like everyone else, I want to save a few pennies, so rang up Orange at xmas time to enquire about changing tariff.
"Certainly Sir," I was told "ring back after 1st Jan and we can change it for you, free of charge".
"That's brilliant, can you tell me my options?"
"Sure, you can go down to either £35, £30 or even £25 per month, just ring back after Jan 1st and we'll take care of it".

So off I went, and rang back after the 1st (I think it was the 3rd I rang).
Alas, this time I got put through to the dreaded Indian call centre!
Got told I could only go as low as £30 per month.
Fine I said, take care of it.

My next invoice came in - £40.
Rang Orange (got the UK - hurrah!)
No changes had been made.
Explained all of the above to the guy.
"Well I don't know why you were told that. You can only drop by £5. It's a new term we brought in to stop people getting the good phones for free then dropping to the lowest tariff."
"But that isn't me, I'm just trying to save money here."
"Sorry, £5 or nothing."

So told him to process it, but I was lodging a complaint.

But...HE HADN'T DONE IT EITHER!!

Had to call back again, and got told the same thing - £5 only.
Total rubbish.
They wouldn't even let me pay an admin fee to downgrade.

I complained several times and was promised a manager callback, which I still haven't had.

The cust service there is terrible, and I'm stuck with an over priced contract with a very poor internet service and texts/minutes I don't use!!

Am I basically stuffed until I can cancel?

I would advise writing to their head office/complaints department (recorded delivery) with dates and times of calls and inform them that if it's not sorted by your next bill date that you'll cancel the DD.

Yes you shouldn't cancel a DD, as you'll prob incur charges or anger from Orange, but at least they will contact you.

I have a problemt with BT years back and after 4 months, still no joy - so cancelled the DD and within 2 days they were ringing me to "chase for payment" and when I advised they'd get nothing till my problem was sorted, the problem was sorted withing 24 hours. I then paid what was owed in full minus compensation and refund and continued as normal.

I dont mean to be rude brody and yes it seems Orange have been naughty by saying you could drop the rental by a certain amount but then you cant but at the same time they are under no legal obligation to let you do it at all really, you signed a contract for £40 a month and thats what they will expect, and as they said it stops hit and drops on high end handsets, the tarrifs are higher for a reason.
  • Hi there, I work for Orange and might be able to help.

Sorry to read about the problems you have experienced. What you have been advised of is our Migration Policy, which allows the customer to change their Service Plan
once only, after the first half of the agreement has expired.

Brody I've usually found if you go into one of the Orange shops they're actually more helpful.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

    lol^

Orange shops are sales outlets not customer service ! If you dont know that your treatment instore will ensure you do - " call 150 "

I dropped from ONLINE Dolphin35 to Dolphin25 in month 11 ( Nov 08 ) - then across to Racoon25 the following month ( apart that failed to get done & recalculation needed done )
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

I'd say it would mostly depend on the operator you speak to, most of them would override if you kicked up enough of a stink, and it can be overridden. (retentions or upgrades would be your best bet, UK Call centres)
