situation= i have a normal gas meter and a prepayment electric meter. the electric meter is booked to be changed to a standard credit meter next thursday. can i start the switching process to a new supplier even though the elec meter hasnt been changed yet? as i want to get a duel fuel online tarrif with edf?

i have tried calling them but there now closed. any advice would be good.

Yeh it should be fine as you will have the cooling off period before your old supplier can be notified and cancel the job. Make sure you take a note of the final readings from the old meter (even if ppm) just to make sure there are no problems with the billing.

Yes, it'll be weeks before you get asked for a meter reading.

I'd wait until a few days after the meter has been changed .. I'd think your chances of getting everything correct with your new supplier will be greater if the updated meter details have been correcty updated BEFORE the switchover process starts

oh sorry, I understand... you mean old the supplier cancelling the meter change job ... I'd agree they're not likely to do that

Id still wait ... but each to their own ... maybe I've just worked in the industry too long and seen the problems caused by change of supplier and meter exchanges in close timeframes..

I hope it all works out for the OP anyway

as someone said earlier the meter should be sorted way before they ring for a meter reading as switching takes 4-6 weeks? correct?
