Cheapest Oil & Filter Change!

Shop around. phone a few fast fit places and ask.
In response to the OP, anywhere that does an oil and filter change cheaper than you can do it at home I'd be very suspicious of the quality of oil and filter they use. Biggest question is are they using the correct grade (not just saying they are).
The way they do it is to bulk buy the oil and components. Its a fact that not all oil filters are the same inside - quality varies massively. Lots of independent garages will stick a cheap filter on like Framm filters which are so cheap they do more harm than good.
I like to do my own because I know I'm putting a decent quality oil in and using a decent filter, even if it costs more.0 -

I agree and I'm pretty sure I could do an oil and filter change in much less time than it would take me to drive somewhere and pay to have it done.0 -

Don't you yearn for the fun of wriggling under the car on a sloping drive, reaching for the sump plug, only to find that it was fitted by a neanderthal, wrestling, cursing, and finally, the joy of feeling that hot oil running down your arm, into the sleeve of that good shirt that you meant to change out of.... Then comes the filter, down in the bowels of an oily engine somewhere, knock a screwdriver through it, wont budge, no turning back now... Then, when its all over, and your trying to staunch the flow of blood from split knuckles, there is the thorny problem of where to safely dispose of several litres of gunge. Or, do I just pay 20 quid and get someone else to do it??? Hmmmm!
You could always take your own filter to National, I'm sure they wouldn't mind.0 -
I have to add my advice
I have had two oil and filter changes in 8 months, next due next month.
I always have it done at Ford for my Mondeo 2.5 V6 as they only charge £32 including at, however think this is only for cars that are Ford?
But they use the best oil and a branded filter, I have to admit I bloddy hate the main dealer but for oil change I know i can trust the oil that is keeping my engine sweet0 -
They use Unipart Filters and Castrol magnatec. it gone up to £28 for a smaller car, but i totally agree with post 73...it aint worth the hassle. to do it yourself. It is a "Loss leader" to an extent , they make up the money by charging for example £91 for Front pads on a Punto.(National Tyres)0

Just had a quick look and the price for my car (1.4 Golf IV), is £34.
Anyone know anywhere cheaper?0 -
homebase are selling magnetec 10/40 for 2.58 a litre, cracking price.
THey are also selling other castrol edge etc
check online for stock levels at your nearest shop. Their oil in 4litre bottles is a rip off though!0 -
^ only 1 bottle in stock near me, £2.98 a litre now.
Is there a website where you can check the actual oil required that goes in your car?0 -
Bit the bullet and paid £30.60 at National, 10% discount if you pay online.
It says they will be using Castrol Edge 5W30 Full Synthetic, which costs £44.99 for 4 litres at Halfords. (If that is what they actually use?!)0
