I wouldn't trust them with anything but basic work.
A local small garage offers tyre fitting, but when I asked them where their equipment was they said they use Nationwide's for free. He said it was because they owe him big time for putting right all their !!!!-ups!!

Still know what you mean, but you can't get much more basic than an oil & filter change and at this price, it makes sense."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -

If your car is not doing high mileage then why would you have an oil and filter check done every 6 months? If you were a high mileage user surely this would sense to have it done every 6 months or so? Or is it because your car uses alot and needs quite a lot of oil. You could save money and time by having it done annually. No?0 -

If your car only does 4000 miles per annum (like my wife's)
and routine service was every 12000 miles or 1 year (whichever comes first is usually what the manufacturers recommend), you would get the o& f changed once per year. Some new cars now have extended service intervals to 20000 miles. BUT all the best advice recommends an O & F change at least every 6 months! This keeps the engine in good nick. Even if you don't have a service regularly, always change the oil & filter. This is why a company car with regular servicing with 100K on the clock, usually has an engine in much better condition than a similar 3 yr. old car with only 18,000 miles. I stress this is only the engine we are talking about as obviously the rest of the car would have less wear & tear than a high miler."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -

Thanks for the correction, theloft.
And I wondered why the girl in the smart uniform was struggling! lol
I agree its hard to screw up an oil & filter change but I would check for leaks just in case.

theloft wrote:Your theory on this is quite wrong. Oil degrades over time and the worse thing for car engines is low annual mileage (usually means short journeys). If your car does say 24000 miles per annum and is serviced at every 12000 then you would get an oil and filter change every 6 months, which is good.

Also with low annual mileage more running will be done with a cold engine so oil will be less viscous. If you only do short journey to and from work then go for a fully synthetic oil, and check which weights of oil your car can use.I have a cunning plan!

Sorry to confuse things even further but Nationwide is also a (very large) Tyre & Exhaust Chain! www.nationwideautocentres.co.uk0 -

I have asked them for quotes on tyres and exhausts at various times but have gone elsewhere if it was a better deal. As you say I think it depends on the particular branch manager, but I am very satisfied.
Could you confirm that it was High Wycombe as they don't have one listed on their site - Slough is the nearest. I'm in Marlow so High Wycombe would be easier - where is it in Wycombe please ?
What size engine is the price you mentioned for ? Does it include a new drain plug seal ?0 -

My car is a 2.9, and my wife's is 1.4. Price does not include a new drain plug seal, so if you want one fitted (I've never had a leak) buy one beforehand from your local spares shop (AutoParts in Micklefield Rd are very good!) and ask them to fit it when you have your o&f change.
National in High Wycombe are at 25-27 Desborough Avenue, Tel. No. 01494 526381. Ring them and get a price for your particular car. Don't forget to state fully synthetic or semi-syn.!!"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -
