We would hope you wouldn't as the email has lots of good information in it and ways to save money, its totally free, 3.2m get it each week and enjoy it, we don't spam. Yet if you did it as described I would still pay out the 50p (though sign up and cancel immediately and we wouldn't). However I believe the email is good enough that people who get it will stick with it.

Ultimately we have 4,000 people join a day on average, without this 50p, so its already worked out that it'll be £2,000 a day before the upsurge. We're aware some people will drop out quickly - but I still think this is a nice thing to do - we've done it before - a good charity gets money - i get to make the joke about Hilda's slippers.... what more could you want.

    Martin :)

I'm ok with how the site is financed from affiliate links in the email but I have to say I think 50p is rather mean considering the revenue the email generates. I'm assuming not all the revenue from the email goes on hosting the website? Would it not be better to doante the affiliate payments from new email subscribers or would this be less, just a thought as it's probably tougher than usual raising money for charity this year. Good luck with adding new subscribers.

I know that Martin and his website raise a lot of money for all sorts of charities.:T

I think that a potential £50,000 donation (if there are 100,000 joining) will be a very welcome boost to the Comic Relief charity.

I think it's a very kind gesture and it is very generous too.

Does this mean we'll get to see Martin handing over a big cheque on the night then - I'll keep my eyes peeled
