You can ring and ask for an "adhoc" statement or they will tell you over the phone how much you owe. I hadn't had the starement that was due in September so I gave them a call and they re-issued it.

Yeah I rang and found out how much I owe them but not had a statement from them in years and when you request one they won't do it.

Not really money saving, more "where has my money gone"! Has anyone else had the same experience as my other half? He started repaying his student loan in 2004, but is still yet to receive a statement for the 2004-2005 tax year and its nearly the end of the next one. Last time he called they said that they still hadn't had the information from his employer  Can anyone offer any advice?

Spoke to SLC and for a change the lasy was very helpful. Anyway, she said that she cant calculate the exact figure of what I owe. She can calculate how much I owe minus any additional volutary payments I do over the phone because the money that is deducted from my salary doesnt get sent to the SLC until the end of the tax year by the tax man, my employers send the money to the inland revenue each month and they keep it for a year (thats nice of them to keep hold of my money for interest  ). and because of the number of loans they have they dont get through it all till october. I asked if I could nit pay via my salary and just make volutarily payments every month so the capital would be decreased straight away as the interest is calcuated daily 9and also I can get some cashback as I pay via my credit card) and she said NO, but the payments from my salary are backdated to the day it was taken out of my salary.

And quering why my payments vary so much so she said that if in any one month your salary is over £1250 month then the deductions will be made, and if in any one month you have bonuses etc etc then that is why the payments will fluctuate.

I dont know if this makes any difference but I use to call 0800 405010 and I just got fobbed off, but then I happened to come across another statement and the telephone number was different 0870 2406298, used that number for the first time and the lady was helpful. It may not make a difference and I may have just got lucky.
