I've never had chocolate crunch with pink sauce! Can you give us any clues about what was in it apart from chocolate? What gave it the crunch? Biscuits? Rice Crispies? Cornflakes?

WHAT!! you have never had chocolate crunch with pink sauce?? It was a sweet from my schooldays. I assumed everyone had had it at some time or another.

Sue you do not know what you are missing..............really you don't. Maybe it's a Welsh thing.

I think it's basically a cake mix with cocoa powder and richer ingredients than a normal cake. And the pink sauce is actually strawberry blamonge (spelling?)

You really should ask on the old style money saving board. They are good with recipes.

No, never. We had Thames Mud and Barges though! (shortbread and chocolate sauce)

Not missing much then. Blancmange is disgusting stuff. :-X Can I have mine without the pink sauce?

Celticfc, I've posted your question on the old style board for you HERE

I've also asked for any other school days recipes because, although the gravy and the mashed potatoes were lumpy the puddings were always yum so hopefully people will post their school days recipes.

Celtic, if you manage to get that recipe for chocolate crunch with pink sauce please please let me have copy! I though I was the only who remembered those lovely school puds. Never had that crunch like it since. :P

I also liked prunes and custard, used to count the stones with the rhyme Tinker tailor etc, tapioca (spelling ?) yum yum. Or is just that I am sad!! ;)

Shame my kids do not experince those kind over dinners anymore. Best they can expect at school is burger and chips!! :-/

  • can anybody please help me? i have looked through the school dinners thread and tried out a few of the recipes for the chocolate crunch. no matter what i do i cant seem to get it right and it seems to come out as more of a cake than a crunch.

can anybody give me a foolproof recipe that i could use?

    thanks a lot
