Why do you think your chances are slim?
You have every chance of successfully claiming your money back

  • mrscmr, was your egg mortgage ppi claim susccessful? If so, on what grounds did you claim? I had a mortgage with egg with ppi around the same time, was it auto opted in or not known about or not fit for purpose? I ask because I want to make a claim myself?

    Thanks in advance

There is no auto opt in/out. It is a standalone product. MPPI is generally considered to be the only PPI worth having. Even the DWP set state benefits on the assumption that MPPI is held.

This is one of the main reasons why MPPI has far fewer complaints and a lower uphold rate than loan and credit card PPI. Lots of the recent MPPI threads have had the main reasons of failure with MPPI. So, you could read a couple of those to see if they apply to you.

So, what is it that makes you think it was mis-sold?

I've got to be honest and say that I'm not sure. For the cost of a stamp I thought it would be worth a try!

My egg mortgage was all done online nearly 10 years ago and I suspect the option to include ppi was defaulted to yes.

So, bottom line is that you are thinking about making a fraudulent complaint?

it is not like a personal loan or credit card where the PPI is integrated into the debt. With mortgages, it is a standalone product. If you paying the MPPI monthly by direct debit from your current account then it is not integrated in any way. If it was front loaded and added to the debt and there is no monthly payment to the MPPI then that is one of the complaint reasons. But that shouldnt be the case here.

  • Thanks for your help on this. I wouldnt say fraudulent, I'd say I was making sure the PPI provider adhered to the rules !

I'm amazed my online bank account allows me, but I managed to check that I wasn't paying any PPI separately back in 2004. It was one monthly payment to egg. However, they do separate the PPI payments in their 6 monthly statements. Just not sure on what grounds I'd make a claim other than auto opt-in.
