Previous thread: Please Help /Suggestions
If you read my previous thread you'll know where I'm at....
I work short term freelance contracts in theatre as a stage manager. I've just been offered some work in London from mid April til end Sept. Need to find room to rent in London as inexpensively as possible... any offers welcome. I'll be working in SE1, and out 6 days a week, days initially and then days and evenings, ideally would like travel to work to be around an hour or so... If you know of anyone with a spare room, family/friends who need a no hassle lodger please keep me posted...
I'm mature (well I say that, I didn't handle my finances too well), easy going, fine with children/pets/smokers... anything you need to know just ask...
Thanks again to all the support and advice (both financial and theraputic) from everyone..

I am glad that some work has come your way! Can't help on the lodgings though, but good luck!
Have you tried gumtree?Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Can't help I'm afraid, but I'd snap you up as a lodger, as SM you're probably home only to collapse and go to sleep :rotfl: :rotfl: no trouble at all.
But it's more than an hour from here to SE1.0 -
That's it to at T... Home to sleep then out again the next day...
Should've said longer than an hour... last place took me 1hr 3/4 to get home....0 -
I've obvioulsy become very niave about the cost of accomodation in London!!!!0

Sure, I'll just phone up my rich relative whom I don't know really well but owns quite a few prestigious properties in London. Sorry, please excuse me.

But I think you are going to struggle looking at property of a central nature. And even for a boxroom in London it's gonna hurt. Even SE1. Actually, scratch that but wrong SE1. Earls Court is the opposite direction and in another area of London. lolAny help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

I'm aware that I won't get something central for what I can afford, and expect to travel for at least an hour... I'm just exploring every opportunity to find affordable accomodation and I'd sooner spend what I can afford to someone here who may welcome the extra income than to an agency....I have just under a month to find somewhere and would rather not end up paying silly money I can ill afford at the last minute....0

Yes, I understood you the first time around my dear fellow.
Just telling you what the pitfalls are going to be. As you already seem to know. Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

You might want to check out the New Cross area (SE London) on Gumtree. A quick look shows a few studio flats for less than £150/wk and you may find shares for less. The commute to Waterloo is quick on the train (zone 2 about 8 mins to London Bridge) and there are lots of buses.
Good luck.0
