query about new users (anti spam)- limits on posts?

i see that new users 'sodiwe' and 'wdwoei' have been busy in the past hour or so, with their spam.. (both have been reported).
i am surprised that there is seemingly no limiit set the number of posts per day (hour?!), for new users, to deter such things?

Yeah I looked at the new posts this morning and out of the 12 pages they occupied 6 of them. Should be some sort of limit. I know they cannot post for a minute between posts or something like that but some people are always going to persevere0

I don't know who responds to spammers anyway.
But putting a daily limit on new posters and/or a time between consecutive postings might help counteract them?0 -
There has always been spammers and always will be. They are more obvious overnight because there is no staff on the abuse team that work at night.
It would help if the first poster made it clear that they had reported the spammer and that no one else posted in the thread, it would then sink down the board until eventually removed in the morning, I have seen posts that are obviously spam that have 18 or more replies, this only serves to keep them alive and cluttering up the boards.
These days I dont even report the thread, I copy a link to the spammers ID and send that to the abuse team, it helps cut down on the number of reports that they get and gives them a direct line to the culprit.0 -

Why can they use a image verification catch a if someone posts several times in quick sucession0 -

Some of the Board Guides never (seem to) sleep, and abuse sometimes delete and PPR them at hours I wouldn't consider part of the working week, but it is a bit pot luck.
However, as torbrex says, the most useful thing to do is post nothing more than "Spam, post reported" if no-one else has responded, then send a link to the user's profile to
Starting a new thread commenting on spam on a board where spammers have been busy looks strange once the offending posts have gone, and creates more work for abuse and the BGs.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
was just an idea for automated spam control, rather than poor mods having to manually(??) check through evrything!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
