New Contract Vs Renegotiated Contract

I am currently an Orange customer and have been for about 5 years, always on pretty much the lowest tarriff.

I dont feel Im getting a good deal anymore and was initially going to go to Mercury Telecoms until I read about them on this site. By that time I had cancelled my Orange contract which will now expire on the 9th March.

Having looked at the various cash back deals around I figure that I can save money, all be it in a slightly protracted fashion, and stay with Orange at the same time - I like their coverage.

This seems crazy - cancel my existing contract to take out a new one with the SAME provider?

I dont however suppose that Orange will be able to match the 'equivalent' monthly line rental of £5/ month that is being offered on the cash back deal that I am looking at???

Is there an alternative? Any comments etc,......

As you are already set to cancel, the best thing for you would be to take out a new contract and get "new customer" benefits/discount.

If you were out of contract and rang Orange to say "what can you offer me" or "i've seen x amount of minutes for £x a month, can you beat it or match it to keep my custom" then you would know if they'd try their best to keep you, or just let you go.

Usually they offer you something to stay, it will never be as good as a new customer offer as they know you stick within your free minutes, but if they entice a new customer, on the off chance they could be mad and spend £1,000+ a month over their free minutes and ofcourse business is business so they'd prefer the £1,000 a month customer instead of you, sad but true.

  • What a lot of people do is transfer their number with a PAC code to a PAYG sim. after a little while they then get a new contract (back with original provider) and use a PAC to transfer the number back again.
    To infinity and beyond!

I presume that I dont have to wait until after the 9th March (my current disconnection date) until I take out a new contract?

only if you were keeping your number you would need to wait.

You can get another contract at anytime aslong as you pass the credit check as it'll show you as having two contracts if you pass.
