New to this forum so I do apologize if I am replicating a question.

How on earth are you supposed to build up your credit rating after bankrupcy when nobody will give you a credit card? It is so frustrating! Even Capital One have turned me down and I thought they gave them to anyone! Have to live by cash all the time as no debit card or cheque book either. Don't get me wrong that is what I needed to do for a while but I am nearly three years down the line now and would like to move on. Any advice?

Ok, there are loads of banks that will take you for a basic account, so long as your bankruptcy has discharged. I'd start with HSBC then maybe Barclays as Barclays are notorious for saying no if you've any previous fraud and i've heard they classify B/R as fraud in some cases. Anyway, what I mean is HSBC will give you a Visa debit card if you go to them, as will Barclays of course but coop/halifax etc give visa electron which is sooooo outdated they need a slap! lol

Regards to credit card, I went with the sun pay as you go (tuxedo card) as it was cheap and even though you load it with cash, it can help for example take it to phones 4 U and they'll bypass a credit search and sometimes give you a contract phone therefore you're on the credit scene again!

Also, try opening a simply be/jacamo/fashion world account. They normally give everyone a limit of 125 at start - again, this helps your credit file.

Its a hard and long process but 3 years is a little excessive and if anything out of date, to still being blacklisted as such.

I'd even consider adding notice of correction text on your credit report, doing so forces manual intervention at the lenders side and you could put something appealing like 'got made redundant, lost everything including wife and kids and managed to pick myself up again' etc.... you know the typical sob story.

Some lenders will help, aqua are hard even though it is sub-prime whereas manument is easy as is Vanquis but not guaranteed by any shot.

I have vanquis plus 2 gold cards totalling 5k credit (not sub prime) and capital one/monument both say no to me. Reason why? They search call credit and equifax whereas my Experian file is perfect so I use banks that I know will only search experian.

nah, its not me mate its basically an incorrect link so easy (i thought) to get sorted.

After i've done the SAR's it will get sorted once and for all cos then i'll see why they think i'm the same guy! Obviously in hindsight I should have dealt with this at the beginning 2yrs ago but decided not to bother!

However it only affects Equifax and to be honest I don't care - i'm like you, too chilled to get down by a bit of debt (like 100k that aint mine lol)

ahh, so they didn't get what they wanted from experian and decided to do a 2nd search at equifax? same as me then! monument use CC and to be honest I never even class them as a CRA so dunno and dont care what they hold about me! Only monument use them for credit, but as they are the cheapest insurance companied do use them - namely Aviva, RSA, Direct Line..... so be warned!

I think that they always search EQ first and if they do not get the info they want the search EX.

Fortunatly I made a pledge to pay my car insurance anually so no need for credit checks :D

Its not credit checks, its the check they do using Experian DA (have you even looked at the sites of the companies I listed?) lol

Each one does different things and the purpose of these is to show insurers dodgy claimants or people who change claims etc - its never gonna affect you for insurance, it can however accidentally mix you up with someone else and then you get dragged into a mess through no fault of your own!
