How?

New to this forum so I do apologize if I am replicating a question.

How on earth are you supposed to build up your credit rating after bankrupcy when nobody will give you a credit card? It is so frustrating! Even Capital One have turned me down and I thought they gave them to anyone! Have to live by cash all the time as no debit card or cheque book either. Don't get me wrong that is what I needed to do for a while but I am nearly three years down the line now and would like to move on. Any advice?

why no debit card? some banks offer a debit card with their basic bank account and take bankrupts - try barclays cash card account or co-op cashminder - run the card well then maybe they will offer you a credit card to start you off

Your credit files will be affected for at least 6 years from date of bankruptcy.
If you search the bankruptcy board you will see that some banks are more lenient than others with what they will offer you.
  • Thanks for that. Will maybe consider a Barclays account as there is a branch locally. I like to know that I can actually go in and speak to a person if I need to.

    Thanks again

there is a "credit card" thats like a top up card. you make deposits into it and spend on it - obvioulsy its the same as a debit card but I DID hear that it can help your credit rating somehow, something to do with paying £4.95 per month for the card makes it like a "loan" of some sort..

i know i sound a bit sketchy so its best googling it and getting the facts, but i hope ive pointed u in the right direction.

I believe that it is called the "Cashline" card and they give you £50 or so on the card and you repay it back over 12 months so in affect its a loan

sounds about right innocent - i knew it was something like that. its £4 per month but it helps rebuild you credit credibility.

mind you tho, i aint ever gonna get a loan or a cc again... so i dont give a rats backside what my rating is like..

Ha! dont worry about it!! There are lots of ways to live a great lifestyle with these "problems" i adapt very well and focus on the best thing for me at the time. So long as I have money, somehow, somewhere, I will be fine - there's "official by the book" life - and real life.

If I lost my flats i would not be worried about it - neither of them are worth anything now and they are not assets, they're financial liablilites. Im beter off being rid off them and staring again in 6 years. save some £££ in the meantime and build up some leverage.

i can alwasy skip town and move to Spain. :)
