Hi sorry to appear stupid?....but do these bank charges apply to credit card ones aswell or just your usual current accounts?

Only becuase the HALIFAX have charged me approx £1000 in the last 4 months for charges interest etc etc becuase of my having to go thru a DMP and not meeting THEIR minimum repayments.

so they are making my situation worse, do I have grounds to send letters to them??

Also, HSBC have been debiting my current account to pay my loan with them, then charging me for going over my overdraft limit, then charging me again for the standing order for my loan because they have had to then return it due to insufficient funds! do I stand a chance here too?

Hi you can claim them back from any type of credit agreement- its a contract. Not too sure about the intrest though unless it is intrest on your charges but ask around on this.

    Hope this helps :)
  • This is an excellent thread, can you imagine trying to meet people in similar circumstances without the internet, things are changing my friends!

    Hi,

Have just opened a basic bank account with The Co-operative Bank just in case Halifax no longer need my custom - obviously without the money I've been giving them, how are they going to organise the staff Christmas party. I'll be no use to them anymore!!!! Still no letter from them, but to be honest, I wasn't expecting to hear anytime soon!!

However I do now have the funds available to file a claim against them, which I plan to do once the time I gave them is up - they have until Monday to respond to my first letter.

Okay - so I've given them longer than Monday, but I've been busy...

Finally received a reply today from the Halifax for my letter dated 20th Feb. Their letter is dated 24th - but arrived today! Letter says

    " Dear ...
Further to your recent enquiry I regret to advist you that, having fully considered your request, we are unable to make a refund of the charges applied to your bank account.

If you would like any further information, please contact us on the avoce telephone number or call into your local branch.

When telephoning or writing to us, please quote your Roll Number.

    Yours sincerely

Quite frankly I am appalled. Whilst I had not expected them to say -" ooo sorry, heres your money" I had expected a better response than I received. They have not made any attempt to advise why they will not refund me, nor have made any remarks concerning my legitimate request for copy bank statements.

Tomorrow I will be contacting them to see where the bank statements are, and that if I do not receive them shortly, I will be serving them with a late action fee and also late fees for every day I have to wait. I mean, they'd do the same - right? Only my fee will not be punitive, but will be a reflection of the time I have spent, and my associated costs.

Guess another letter will be going off to them soon too along with a 'little xtra' for them - court papers.

I recieved the same letter yesterday. I havent got my statements because Im in a bit of a pickle :) Im overdrawn and my overdraft is part of me dmp but the halifax wont allow me to pay for my statements any other way then through my bank account but i cant afford to clear my overdraft to do this and also I cant really because of my dmp - im waffling.

What shall I do? Is there a letter i can send with a postal order saying this is how I want to pay? Ive spoken to them this morning and theyve said they wont do it but i dont want to give up on this?

    Any help would be great

    Thanks

I have an account with the Halifax and once found myself in the same situation - the viciuos circle of charges! I went to the bank, saw an adviser, explained my situation and they decided to drop the charges for that month - over £100.
Also, a couple of weeks ago, the Alliance and Leicester had charged us £50 for going overdrawn for 2 days!!! That was £50 plus another £5 as admin charges. We complained - had to make several calls but got the whole amount refunded. They said that they had made an error - what they mean is that if we hadn't questioned this, we would have lined their pockets, nicely, thank you!
So, go for it and I do hope that you get your money back (or at least some of it).
    Good luck.
