Claiming my bank charges back from the Halifax

Their automated dialler has been calling my mobile for the last few weeks, I refuse to acknowledge it, if they want to call me they should pick up the bl**dy phone. Rude, rude, rude and rude. I will not be paying any charges, I was wacked £150 by first direct, I had a row with them over the charges and had the lot refunded.
The banks are taking the yellow stuff and most of us are just rolling over and letting them empty our pockets."YOU WANT THE CASH? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE CASH"0 -
I had similar experiences with Alliance and Leicester, leading to over £100 in bank charges. You really can't go wrong with a well-worded, but non-threatening letter stating what you want resolved as a result of unfair treatment of failed DD's, going £1 or £2 over your overdraft limit (if you have one at all!), or any other charge they like to impose.
Overall I was bloody impressed they took full liability and refunded the lot! It really is worth challenging it!The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits...0 -
I will also be starting legal action today (against the halifax - £320), if when i return home there is no cheque (or letter)
There 7 days are up!
Also im in the process of starting action against the credit card side (£120) and will be adding court costs and interest if i dont receive satisfaction straight away
I too used the same letter (albeit amended) and as said before the letter is not the issue, but i think they may see the pattern forming and put up more of a fight (or be more awkward)
Either way im getting MY money back
good luck all0 -
Halifax are disgusting after constantly using that ‘Howard Brown’ to promote themselves to new customers and then treating their current customers like dirt, like that poor family last week in the news. Whichever managers have the final say in these matters I hope they are pleased with themselves and they never have to experience anything like that! :mad:0

Most banks CANNOT Charge you more than 3 times in one month, That's £75 ONLY! How you got charged over £200 beats me!

I wrote to the halifax regards to this last week. I dont know the total of my charges i need to get copies of my statements.
Do you think it would be a good idea to send the letter again with £10 which i believe is the fee for this?
Thanks

Hi sorry to appear stupid?....but do these bank charges apply to credit card ones aswell or just your usual current accounts?
Only becuase the HALIFAX have charged me approx £1000 in the last 4 months for charges interest etc etc becuase of my having to go thru a DMP and not meeting THEIR minimum repayments.
so they are making my situation worse, do I have grounds to send letters to them??
Also, HSBC have been debiting my current account to pay my loan with them, then charging me for going over my overdraft limit, then charging me again for the standing order for my loan because they have had to then return it due to insufficient funds! do I stand a chance here too?0 -

These are purely from our current account with them.kalfy1 wrote:Only becuase the HALIFAX have charged me approx £1000 in the last 4 months for charges interest etc etc becuase of my having to go thru a DMP and not meeting THEIR minimum repayments.

As to HSBC, I don't see why you don't have a valid claim, and the Halifax & DMC - I'm not sure. The best place to post may be the illegal bank charges thread. There are masses of pages - don't let that put you off. You can read them all if you have the time, or go to the end and post your question there. dchurch24 is an absolute mine of fab information! I didn't include £10 with my letter. I am planning to phone them, if I have heard nothing by Friday. Then pay them the £10 if required (no funds till then, and don't want to get any further charges!!). Then if no response by Tuesday/Wednesday - depends when they get my letter (sent via Recorded). Will send again with notice to take them to court - as will have the funds for court then."A simple life freely chosen is a source of strength. I am in the same boat as you Frugal Fox. Thanks to dchurch24 and the BankActionGroup I have taken advice and read up on how to get over £1000 of my charges back from Abbey, MBNA and CapitalOne each as evil as the last not willing to work with me on my debt that was accrued. I have no problem with being an annoying yet polite thorn in their side until they repay my charges in full which will allow me to start rebuilding my shattered finances. Good luck to you and let us all know how you get on.
By the way first post thanks for all the tips from everybody that I've been reading in the last couple of weeks!
