Choille that made me giggle:D
Rummer - yes I think it's probably a good time to mulch, although I think it's useful most of the time! I've just covered my tiny plot with HM compost which hopefully the worms will work through for me so not much digging required;)
Not sure what to do with my plot over winter. Still have some broccoli in there but am hoping to do a bit of a rejig and put fruit in next year, already have raspberries in there but need to move them around a bit cos I'm going to put in one of my apple trees that's currently in a pot and train it along the fence espalier style, not sure now is a good time to shift things about so wondering if there's anything I could pop in as it were over the winter.
Davesnave I think you're supposed to smother the weeds with cardboard or similar before putting on mulch otherwise it will indeed creep through. You need to gve a good overlap too at least 20cm I believe. I think I would prefer that to digging;) though not got huge amounts of land to contend with!!
Belated Happy Birthday Stitchy I'm impressed with your organization! Im hoping to make some presents this year for Christmas. Had a recent LBM about the amount of cr*p we have and actually dreading the influx of even more at Christmas so trying to think of useful presents that I can make. Was intending to give some HM bramble jam to MIL bit have eaten it:o
Anyway should get back to work. Am at home today (supposedly working) as having boiler repaired. I think it's actually terminally ill but he's trying to breathe some life back in. It's the third visit so prob going to cost a fortune!! I am hoping to get a wood burner with a back boiler at some point so trying to hold off buying a new boiler until I work out what would be best to compliment wood burner. Has anyone got one? How do you find it?
Anyway am going now, be back later probably,

Davesnave, what have you been saying to your weather gods .
Taking a few days out with OH and booked a cottage on the edge of Dartmoor from Thursday. And you've lined up non-stop rain including up to 100mm on Friday.
Give us a break!0 -
Sorry, rhiwfield, it's been pretty good up till now, with the exception of a couple of days.
We were in Dawlish on holiday during the big storm of 2004, which saw trains stranded under the cliffs. In fact DD2 and I were in Dawlish station watching the waves break over the roof; it was most dramatic. Despite that, we got out every day and walked all around the Dartmoor foothills.
It does look as if it will be a tad damp though......More time in the polytunnel & barn...and on here, I suppose.
Have a great time.:j0 -
Hi everyone
Firstly apologies for not posting for a while ... I have been comin on to read and thank you all but just havent had the time to really post as we've had a lot going on.
But i do have some good news! I don't know if any of you remember that i went for a job a few months back working for a local member of the scottish parliament but didn't get the job? Well i got a call last week from him asking me to come in on monday just passed for a "bit of a chat".... And it turned out that another post had come available ... same job but slightly more wages and slightly more responsibility. Someone left and he managed to create 2 parliamentary assistant positions. So i started there yesterday!!!!! So far really enjoying it and hopeing that all keeps going as well as it has the last 2 days. And looking forwad to my first pay packet in 8 years!!!! Its weird being at work with the kids still being small but OH is at home to look after him so he can be a house husband for a change.
Right I hope you are all well ... i must get my behind to bed or the 30 minute drive tomorrow morning will be a nightmare!!!
Take care and will "speak" to you all really soon xxxxxLBM - August 2008 - Debts then - £33390 - 2nd LBM - November 2009 - Debts then - £18500:mad:

Excellent news Bonsibabe - that is good.
Dare I ask who you will be working for?
Great that they got back to you & you'll be getting regular pay cheques coming in. It will be interesting work, I would think - which makes getting up & going there a happier journey than if it was a drudge of a job.
Good for you.0 -
All the best with the job, Bonsi. Sounds like it will be varied....and you might even find out what's really going on!;)
I was just thinking yesterday how my last full time job was in November 2006, and it seems light years away now. I don't think I could go back to that again, so I admire you picking up the threads again after an 8 year break.0 -
Congratulations Bonsibabe!
We have had a bit of a set-back....OH's largest pension has been 'delayed' this month, which leaves us a bit short, will manage but no saving and can't do any shopping for Christmas either....this has happened a couple of times in 40 years but is always at this time of year....bah humbug!
Weather very wet and windy here so nothing being done to tidy garden for winter.

Great news Bonsibabe, sorry to hear your not so great news mean marie!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Thank you everyone! Choille - have sent you a PM.
It certainly is very interesting and varied. I have always enjoyed keeping up with the news but it is also very different as I'm learning just how some issues are directly affecting people in the area. I have a drive to Dingwall every day of about 25/30 minutes but its a nice drive as the kessock bridge is packed with people coming into the city in the morning so my road is quieter and same on the way home, everyone is going north so my road is slightly quieter!!! And I'm super lucky as my MSP has adjusted my hours so I can still do my college course as well which is a real bonus.
So OH is now house husband and so far seems to be coping well but the proof of the pudding is still to be seen!
Hope you are all well, meanmarie - so sorry to hear your news, hope you are ok xxxLBM - August 2008 - Debts then - £33390 - 2nd LBM - November 2009 - Debts then - £18500:mad:

Just got back, stayed in Sticklepath where the oak tree in the park is not looking its best after losing several branches, prob a mix of lightning strike and the gales. Days at £1.80 a pint in the Taw River Inn, maybe not greenfingered MSE but at least £1 a pint cheaper than round here!0
