Note for CTC and Alfie. Mrs Rhiwfield went a bit mad and made me bid on 10 lots of mostly girlie stuff at a recent auction. Collected it today and theres a lot of vintage ladies underwear, corsets, pyjamas, nighties, 50s swimwear. Also Jacqmar and Valentino headscarves, lots of framed 60s-80s tapestries and a load of linen yet to be looked at. Also some etirel white lace knickers, which someone has cross referred to Gussie Moran (bit dubious, cant find a link atm) Tips on how to sell and what to look for are urgently needed so the cash flow gets back on track! Pls post or PM me!!
She's drooling over some vicars lace tablets for making tenerife lace atm so got the computer back briefly! There's one fabulous chinese silk firescreen with raised dragon decoration (some damage to surrounding silk that needs restoration), might even get it done professionally, it'll prob be worth it.
Back on topic, chooks have developed a craving for sweetcorn, they go mad for the stuff!!0 -
welcome to all newbies .... im the mad one ! animal mad that is0

hi alfie1 - nothing wrong with being mad
i see you are in the new forest - i know it very well (well most of it anyways) although i am only on the doorstep i just don't visit it enough these days - although i do take the dogs every now and then (our woods are close / on the border of it )saving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
made loads last year :beer:0 -
don't listen to Alfie saying she's mad. She's charmingly eccentric, and one of the loveliest most generous people you could hope to meet.0

Hello to old tractor, Gigervamp, splodger and anyone else I've missed....
I wouldn't say it's been cold here, as I only in a t-shirt top on while pulling a sheep out of the fence this morning, just after dawn. It was so misty I couldn't see the blooming thing, but I could hear it!
The rest of the day I've spent shopping for ill people and running another mission of mercy up the M5, which was nasty in this weather. Luckily, we still managed to eat lunch in a nature reserve, where there was a fair amount of bird life. We've been a bit concerned, because it's gone very quiet here on the bird front and it's normally busy.
Then, just entering the village of Curry Rivel in Somerset, a female deer plonked herself right in the middle of the road. She looked lost, as if she was searching for her pals, but we saw no more as she headed off through the scrub.
Horrendous rain on the motorway, which made me wish I'd dodged around it, but I wanted to get back for the hens asap. It was pitch black before I even reached Taunton though.:o
Anyway, the hens were fine but, you've guessed, there was a lot of "baaa!!!" coming from somewhere down at the stream fence and, sure enough, another of my woolly friends to sort out last thing.
Thanks for the RPA info lir, I'll do a bit more research (and thinking.;))
Mmmm guinea fowl....Got to do it! :rotfl:0 -
Mmmm guinea fowl....Got to do it! :rotfl:
IMO they are every bit as decorative as peacocks, and they are easy to ''do'' and the eggs, though you have to hunt for them are really outstandingly good, and such a pleasing shape. And they'd bloody show which ever wretched chick I have who is egg eating. (i think if I identify it it might have to go)
I really really want to get my own guinea fowl very soon.0 -

where we put in a new hedge line we're thinking of putting stock fence with hazel in front, so can coppice the hazel, ona cycle..it will make the hdge tall and lumpy, but also productive....we hope. Had hoped to get that in this year but haven't0 -
