To get the FITS, she would have to be connected to the grid anyway? So very very expensive.
As you say hydro is an option if she has the water. 12v lighting system and batteries with solar is probably the most reasonable option. Depends what alfie needs to run on electric.
If you have been quoted £16k for installing a grid option alfie, does that include you doing the trenching? That can bring down the cost massively.0 -

The good news is that Big dog might actually ot be as guilty as I thought....she might just have found cuckoo dead, because I just found my new RIRed dead.. she was broody on a golf ball, which was fine, atm the golf balls for encouraging them to lay in the right place are more important than the risk of broodiness. but anyway, I found her just off her nest, dead and stiff, almost squashed looking.
.
No obvious sign of disease in anyone, no scratching, nice red combs, and no sign of anything amiss.
Plus, we have wasp problems still and I thik we might lose our hive at this rate.0 -

Linky please? Should have saved it but feeling stoopid most of the time at present.
It's greying over here now, though nice sun first thing. Rain forecaste. Must try and get on to the ^%^%(^ quince again over the next few days. It's unbelievably difficult to prune, it's like some sort of massive knot! And thorny to boot. Am tempted to get a proper quince tree for the back garden, am trying to talk OH round. We may end up having to take out the front garden ornamental quince, we'll see how it responds after a really drastic prune. It really is kill or cure time!0 -

well, davesnave has already read my news of the day, but DH is being sent overseas for an unknown period of time which we are speculating will be ITRO three months, (it'll all be over by christmas).
I don't know what that does to plans here, but I know I can't do anything on our autumn list alone. I think the next three months will be very low on news from the lir-smallholding.
I did say to dh I'd learn to use the chain saw but after he had finished yelling he called my parents to get them to yell too, lol.
There will be something I can do, and three months is a good period of time to do something in. I'd like to do something that will make dh go ''wow'' when he gets back for christmas.0 -

How much is a mini digger to hire? That would do in a day what most men would take months to do.....once you've figured out the controls!
