Horrendous alfie!Never had that, but not till now have I lived in a hedgehoggy area. now there is a new fear.
Alfie, I'm falling in love with your chickens. You're going to have to give me updates lol. Just been watering the indoor babies and loving watching them circle the fresh, cool water, throwing their little heads back with stern concentration and teetering. Like chubby old men at a bar.
I don't know how anyone can become blase about babies.0 -
Alfie I am sorry you lost your chicks however I do have a vision of you in heels wielding a broom to fight off a hedgehog :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Maybe it though the broom was a lady hogTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
just lost my post again.....
i will try and post a pic for you [LIR] of "your " goose eggs on the lake island, camera on charge at mo...
im worried about DORA one of my mini's.:( her feet are growing oddly ! the farrier is concerned so iv booked the mobile vet to xray her next week. then he can trim accordingly when he can see whats going on...just hope its not a BIG problem, have to think positive...
LIR...you were asking re this vet way back.. if you look up www.celticequinevets you can have a read?? he is so into his horses hes great. doesnt faff around with unescecary woffle...and he is much much cheaper than having to take a horse TO a vet !!
im hiring a big lorry thing to fetch the wagon. iv been assured by seller he/mates will load it for me. so im hoping to drive up through the night monday, get a couple of hours kip and back tuesday.. friend offered to pay for hotel but cant see the point, get there and back asap!! im quite excited at this little adventure !!:j
im definately going to go to appelby fair again this year, havnt been for 8 years but went every year for the previous 26. i think i have rosy specs tho and i think it has changed beyond what i remember !!
when i 1st went i was so green, but a gypsy family kept me under thier wing and i saw the "real" horsemanship ...i loved it all. i spent 5 months "on the road" in an open lot and in the yard learning barge painting, making wooden crysanths and pegs etc...toured north wales looking at various privately owned wagons/vans. oooo seems a long time ago now :rotfl:
anyway, back to 2011 !!:o
my silkies havnt hatched yet !!:(
i have a little pekin banty sat on eggs in an old iron mop bucket in the "junk" pile out the back !! presumed shed been 'got but thats where shes been :rotfl: also i noticed tonight as i put the rest to bed, another pekin sat on the shelf? on one egg so will hav to sort a box for her tomorow... typical, im just starting to get eggs and they are all going broody:(0 -
Hurrah for goose eggs!

Alfie - very funny with the hedgehog, but not really funny ha ha.
I used to live on an estate where there were a lot of hedgehogs & I used to take my very elderly cats for a walk in the evenings as it was planted out like an arborituim sp? Beautiful place- well the cats started to run like mad back home one night & there was this horrid noise. It was two hedge hogs mating - what a horrid noise they make. cats were really scared of them so they'd had problems with them.
Rescuer friends once had hedgehogs and they sick up on thier spines & lick it off - sort of grooming thing & they hiss. They have some repulsive habits viewed up close & are usually hiving with fleas.0 -
last night there was weird noises coming from the wood in front of my house ! sort of screams x whines ?? not foxes, not hedgehog, not an owl....?? do deer make those noises? never heard that before..
i nearly set off into the wood incase an animal in trouble, but whistled loudly instead and it stopped...so deduced that an injured animal wouldnt give a monkeys if i whistled yankee doodle dandy so obviously something else.... any ideas??0 -
