Hee Hee! Wow! That programme brought back some lovely memories. What many people don't realise is that for many of us who went and took part in helping were actually jumping their own hurdles too. Mike and his boys certainly weren't the only winners because of that programme.
I was only on a few times, mainly at the end (when Mike came out of the house to meet n greet the workers), and only for fleeting moments. It's hard to explain, but I was the short fat one with, brown hair in a pony tail (and a burnt face, though I don't think that showed on the screen). I wasn't in the bedroom putting the furniture together, and I wasn't in the group in the garden area at the front (I think I was in the back garden scraping the mortar off the decking and vacuuming it up then). Didn't the decking look absolutely spotlessly clean? I did that! lol The paint on the render was still wet so my black trousers were white by the time I finished!
Anyway, it was such an exilirating experience. One I never thought I'd achieve. In fact right up to the night before I left to go there I was petrified at the thought of going out into the world to meet real people. But there was someone else (apart from Mike) who I knew had found it equally difficult to attend so I couldn't let them down. Turns out we both felt the same and would have backed out had the other done so! What are we like hey? It is hard to go swimming in the sea when you've been bitten by sharks, but it's not impossible!

Yes, shetlands out at first is a good idea, but personally I'd bung her straight in with Barney. Generally I find that meeting over fences builds excitement and means they risk an accident with fence/hedge....I'd rather they had space to meet in a big field...and let them get on with it.
edit:I'd get shetlands out too asap, again personally. I think horses are better at teaching each other manners than e are, and being i a herd, even one of shorties, is healthiest for a baby.
oh yes i meant she would go straight in with barney in the 10 acres. shetties stay in the small field adjacent cos theres still a lot of grass in big field and dont know if sweet enuff to set off the lami again...:(
can let barn and rubes in with them later?:)0 -

Anywfact right up to the night before I left to go there ay, it was such an exilirating experience. One I never thought I'd achieve. In I was petrified at the thought of going out into the world to meet real people.
Sorry Poosmate I missed the programme but it wounded a very worthwhile project.
Why were you scared to go out, if it's not too rude to ask?0 -

Hard to know where to start as it's impossible to say when I stopped going out meeting people - I suppose I've evolved into the person I am now so I'll have to re-evolve (would that be devolve?) back to the bubbly outgoing person I once was.
I want to add "only wiser" onto that last statement but I don't feel that being wiser is always positive, feels like a chain round my neck holding me back.
You know when people get bit by dogs and they are then scared of them forevermore, I got bit by an ex. He destroyed me. I lost everything but my house. I was advised to declare myself bankrupt but I didn't (how stupid am I now I know it's not the end of the world!). For so long I couldn't afford to go out and if I could I couldn't afford to buy any nice clothes or shoes to go out in. And I couldn't justify going out and all that expense when I was so in debt so I just stopped going out.
I have a very small circle of friends (left from before the dark days) and find it very difficult to let anyone else in. There was something about Mike (the guy who's house was done up - username Lisawaters (long story)) and the core of people who were posting on his thread that inspired me and I just wanted to help, I wanted to meet people, for the first time in years! I really don't know what came over me! lol
Unfortunately, as I am still quite a bit in debt and working hard on reducing it, I haven't been able to continue this new fangled "socialising" thing! Well not in the "real" world anyway. I think I do ok online though.
I think I am devolving though, slowly but surely, I mean, I'm up for a Daydream Challenge meet so that's progress isn't it? Looks like I can only afford one outing a year though! lol
Hope I haven't confused you more! Oh and I'd love to be able to pop in to your blog every now and again too if you don't mind.
Poo <--- Der! I nearly spelt my name wrong! How? It's only 3 letters and two are the same!!! LOL:rotfl:One of Mike's Mob, Street Found Money £1.66, Non Sealed Pot (5p,2p,1p)£6.82? Downloaded!:j .......I went to bed before it completed, so I will watch it next year. Have a feeling we'll be in the pub tonight!
Lir, this one looks kinda cheap. Not even a Woolaway. You know the area.:) I guess there'd be the jolly old A303 rumble, but even so....Sealed bids at dawn is probably on their minds.

Poo
Poo, one of the things I felt last night was that everyone who helped make Mike's dream come true gained from the experience, a real win-win situation. So pleased that it really helped you as well, sometimes you just need that extra push to get you out of your shell0 -
I know exactly what you mean Poo - I am the same in some ways. I must make more of an effort. It is hard here - very sparse population & has become rather pooosh in some respects. I think we are regarded as the scruffs.
I have really retreated to the point I hardly go out now.
An incredibly dull day again & drizzle but very mild again.0
