  • Sorry to hear of your loss, Choille.

    Alfie your house is cute!

Dave, what do you use to drill holes in CDs? I have a pile here I want to recycle into a water feature, but not sure how to make holes in some of them to make it work.

Crisp, clear and cold here tonight, it's actually lovely to be out once you get over the thought of going outside. If it's clear tomorrow I'll be getting my skis out (only the second time in 9 years we've had enough snow!)

Thanks for the condolences. Funny as Mrs Hopperty the ancient is still with us - you'd of thought she'd have succumbed.

I've sold two tops on ebay - never having done that before. Not that I made anything - pennies really. I bet they complain as there is no way they'll get there by XMas.
Alfie - yes, your house looks Arts & Crafts, chunky chimneys. The couple who split used to rescue stuff, saw allsorts at their place. There's a Wildlife Hospital in Ullapool but the woman doesn't keep well I hear. They used to take stuff to give her a break. I've had otters released down the bottom of my croft.

Hi Trog.Just an ordinary high speed, metal cutting bit as I recall, but I did them months ago. They were originally meant to ward off the plagues of pigeons and rabbits which never arrived in the vegetable garden.:)

I saw a buzzard today cruising low over the house, but it didn't pause. I think the high fences around the chicken orchard & the trees all help, as will the reflection and distractive movement of the CDs. But anyway, as I've said, we can't roof over the whole orchard, though if we lost hens, we could fix a few straining wires across. HTH.

So cold. Troughs all frozen again, and one of the old horses is really struggling. I have a terrible feeling its her last winter....I just hope she makes it through to spring. :(

Last night I felt another cold coming on....its just one after the other this year, and when we went to bed I was cold, so we put on an electric heater and DH dug out the electric blanket and still I couldn't get warm. I was shivering while dh was kicking off the covers for hours. :( we got to the station ok this morning, but if it looks like its getting worse DH is going to come home today/tomorrow ....most of his colleagues closer to London aren't even trying to get in today. :)

Another 10cm here at least, drifting to an exta 20-30cm in places. Hens staying in ATM. Sheep looked ready to rush me when I brought their haylage.

Still, I managed to palm off a load of older hay on them, which they wouldn't touch a week ago. How tight is that? And it's not even my hay! :D

Logs carefully seasoned and put aside for Christmas, totally buried in snow. I'll dig them out and put under cover later. Should have moved them from the open barn, but this is very fine stuff and blew everywhere.

No trains running, and it takes a lot to close the Tarka Line. My guess is that their drivers are unable to reach base.

Thoughts moving from how to get presents towards how to get Christmas food......Feel so sorry for those banking on local Farmers' Markets for income in the last week or so. We can't reach their farms and the markets are over, more or less. :(

LIR - Sorry to hear about your horse - hope it pulls through.
Hope you manage to shake off the cold - I take vit C but had a cracker a couple of months ago. OH just had it similar.

Snowing heavy here, well just stopped - so that's everything totally jiggered now. Just watched the weather forecast & they are going on about poor Portsmouth & how it's a nice day in the North - WWHHHHAaaaaattttttttt!
At least it feels milder - goodness knows what it was yesterday but I aint felt cold like that.

Dave - Do the sheep have a lick? Did the ram rest up - is it's limp better? Sheep will eat owt when it's like this. All that's visible in the field is the tips of reeds & they're eating them - normally spilt hay they leave, pull out more etc but they're eating the lot.

Well I haven't attempted to get the ebay stuff away - so It'll be black marks for me from the start off.

The Scot's Greys are looking pretty ropey - which is odd as they are generally really, really hardy - hope I don't lose anymore.

Well we never got another load of wood - so that'll be today's panic & no chance of getting any client's paying their overdue bills - grrrrrrrr.

Keep cosy all & stay off the roads.

I'm thinking of hanging a heat lamp out for mine. Its a big space,so no chance they'll overheat. Seems a weird thing to do for adult chickens, but this is ODD weather. Its also just occurred to me that a well sited heat lamp might help stop water freezing up
