Got quite a few tubs of gooseberry granita in the freezer but it just doesnt seem the right weather!
Sounds delicious! Might be the right weather if out into a cocktail glass with some vodka or rum and drunk swiftly by a fire! Oh my, I think that would be yummy.
I've got left over pie from weekend, but I'm going to be ''good'' and put it in the freezer for a weekend in the future.:D0 -
Been thinking about costs of horse and pony keep and realise the most expensive cost for the small holder is that really you must double everything: horses and ponies like other herd animals should not be kept alone. I know a lot of people do successfully and practically but in my time as a researcher I've looked at the physiological results of stress enough times to make me feel its not something I would be happy to do without very, very good reason. Thus, you need a companion...or rake back some costs by having a livery!0

UK Maggie, didnt you have a floor once?
LOL, yes, and I suspect we'll have one again by the end of this week if the rate of original foundations and build are anything to go by.Of course it's possible that it'll be too cold to pour the concrete? I seem to remember seeing something about minimum temperatures? No heat in the house at all at the mo, so it might be too cold. I think I better read up on that!
We finally got a little snow overnight! Can see snow on the hills in Wales, the sun was shining on them earlier.
OH still off work, suspect he may be tomorrow too, has a hacking cough, but not sleeping quite as much as yesterday (he slept more or less all day!). We'll see.0 -
Tomato Report
Thinking about those we've grown this year, there were a few surprises. Before I forget, here's what I remember:
Gardener's Delight /Unidel (more or less the same thing) were, as usual, the easiest and most productive. As a bog-standard small tom, they still take a bit of beating. They were ready first.
Terry Marshall http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tomatoes-Terry-Marshall/dp/187358072X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1291137986&sr=1-1 is really into tomatoes and he swears by First in the field as the first ripeners, although he used to rate GD. Certainly he had photos of to First in the field ripe in June (indoors) this summer. He lives in Yorks. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
well ! what i can only describe as a sorry excuse for snow fell here today..... it never settled.
i turned all critters out in the 10 acre field and it was like a scene from the wild west.! the TB set of at a canter, the mini shets followed in a long line behind going as fast as thier little legs would carry them. TB was circuiting the field when he suddenly stopped ,put his head down to eat grass and all the shets piled into him... brake failure.big style. wish id had a cam corder!0 -

What a marvellous image! Shetland certainly have a whole load of personality packed into their tiny bodies!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
alfie that made me roar with laughter. I never tire of watching the ''field politics'' and trying to figure it out.
I fund four eggs in the dairy parlour, from two hens, so that means the last two days when I thought I had one egg, then two, I really had three then four.0 -
One of our Vorwerks has worked out that it is warmer roosting in a nice hay-filled nest box than perching with the others. Still, she managed to leave an egg there this morning, so that's OK.
Back on tomatoes, June is very early, so I might give 'First in the Field' a go against one of the others, in the conservatory, our warmest spot. Not just yet though!
Looks a bit more hopeful for some of us by the weekend. Out of minus figures here by Friday, allegedly, and 7c on Saturday. We'll see. I note it's -9c in Inverness this morning.....:eek:0 -

I think it IS warmer this morning, though the north wind has picked up so out of barns etc it feels more aggressively, biting cold. The horses ate some hay last night, not a lot, but some, and there was evidence of them having been in the barn for some time: my guess is its more about the wind chill than anything else.0 -
Hi all :j
sorry I havent been around much...the old computer is in the spare room, and with this cold weather i just want to snuggly up on the sofa in the nights....lol...everyone else has got laptops in the house, but i cant get on with them....so i just use the old clumpy one.....
I love those boots, I might invest in a pair of them, wouldnt look out of place on the bike too, especially if we go to a bike rally and its raining....:rotfl:
not much to report really, my serama's a laying like its no tomorrow, so we are going to set up our smaller incubator and start hatching them out... and use our middle size incubator as a brooder...so you never know we might have chicks born on christmas.....
we have never hatched these before, I got told, as they are soooooo small, they can be a bit fragil to incubate, so we will see, plus chicks and young birds allways go for a premium price in the spring farm auctions......
We have been lucky where we live.... we only had snow on friday..afternoon, and its just been freezing cold ever since..... no more snow.....
right better toddle off to work....Work to live= not live to work0
