We can't put anything on the house (listed) but we have 2 very large south facing (unshaded)barn roofs (on the electric and close to the house) so it seems silly not to exploit them for this use.
edit: thanks also for the words ''kit car'' DH is determined to build a kit tractor....I'm not so sure...for a start I think it wouldn't be ut together by the time I need it. He's also keen for me to have a kit car as a round around....the LR exhausts me and I can't decide on a car because really I want a green option....long range electric or hydrogen, and keep thinking if I wait they'll become more available and more affordable.
Sent now.
Barns sound ideal as long as roofs are load bearing, though the panels dont weigh that much.
Re cars we've gone for small, economical petrol and cut down on mileage where possible. OH being made redundant helps there! These give 50+mpg. Electric cars seem to be the future though, hopefully less expensive when mass produced.0 -

ATM I would think that a better option than an electric, unless you are in somewhere like London.
But I haven't looked into it for a while, so I might be out of date.
Also with this oil thing, who knows what will happen to the oil price from now on.
I didn't go for a tiny car when I had the choice, my OH wanted one a bit bigger for the kids, but I did get one that does 45 to 50 mpg easily. I'm going to keep it for as long as poss now, as affording a newer one is going to be a bit difficult :undecided
Just having a huge haul of redcurrants atm, had about 20 courgettes already, too many lettuces again (and no chucks to eat the left overs since they all got killed by the local wildlife), looks like an absolutely HUGE year for the loganberries and the tomatoes are looking promising (don't they always).

since my little car died we have DH's ancient LR. I do have a friend in the south of france who successfully put a solar panel on top of their LR, but doubt it would be any help here!
I did rashly consider blowing our house deposit on this http://www.teslamotors.com/ ..250 miles on a charge, but I reckon a house is more useful really, than a teeny tiny electric car. My hope is this sort of thing FINALLY arriving in UK heralds a new era. DH wants an Aptera http://www.aptera.com/ but, its, um...not inconspicuous, even if it does become available here...and, um, if we could affordit :rotfl::D

I think what is needed, is a very basic electric car, one that is as simple as poss, forget all this high tech extra stuff they are putting on them, cars are just way too flash nowadays, with silly extras that aren't needed.
The sooner the better, when the government does what nazi germany did perfectly with the beetle, create a peoples car, simple, works, everyone can afford one, good for the environment. Won't happen though. Daft, we could flog it to most of the rest of the world.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

I know 4 of them will end up on the table, they are barbury ducks...ok they are about a year old, so might not be the best age for the table...

Ok, so we're trying to preserve any crops surplus to fresh use and we've already got marvellous runny strawberry jam that now serves as syrup to go with the ice cream
But its the blackcurrants turn now and it makes the bulk of our jams. Trouble is with giving jars away as gifts we've run short of jars/lids so off to the local hardware shop to buy a dozen or so and they want £1 for a 1lb jar/lid :eek:
I swear last year they were 50p so tomorrow its off to Tesco or Asda to buy 1lb jars of value orange marmalade for 27p each which we plan to empty, clean and use. Might use the marmalade in wasp traps but if anyone local can use 24lbs of cr*p marmalade they are welcome to collect!
It pains to throw stuff away, teach us not to save enough jars over the year.0 -
they have prob cottoned on and charging more
not much use for you now, but if you wanted jars in bulk this is a good place
http://www.ascott.biz/acatalog/Glass_Jars_and_Ceramic_Pots.html
this is the place we buy our incubators and chicken stuff from, postage is a bit expensive, but we make sure we buy a few things... at a time.
Well my Ducks sold for £3 each....it looks as though the big ducks ( not call or waterfowl ducks) section is at the end of the auction, so not many people were there in the end... prob due to the weather, as hubby said it was stupidly hot, and it felt like there was no air....
so i got 15% comission to pay.... but at least its 8 ducks gone....Work to live= not live to work0
