Do people laugh at your library books?

I love my library. It is a lovely old building, which unfortunately has been 'modernised' and lost some of its character. I borrow lots of books mainly non fiction if I am researching things such as low fat cooking etc etc.
Also I love audio books for when I am feeling very lazy, having a busy day in the kitchen or just want to slob in bed with a personal cd player - pure decadance:D .
I would never, never ever, borrow or read a Jeffrey Archer - one has standards you know.Jane 21120 -
I used to spend a fortune on books, then I moved dead opposite the library.
I've never bought a book since.
The one thing that took me by surprize when I noticed the visitors to the library is the vast array of people who take books out.Young and old alike.
Not just old ladies like I expected.
I certainly won't buy books again, unless it's something special that I'd want to keep.Never had anyone comment on my reading a library book though.0 -
I love the library.
Hubby and I load up every few weeks with huge amounts of books and magazines.
In fact, I've cut my magazine buying down to zero.
And yes, I get funny looks from friends and occasional laughter. The same friends who complain they can't make ends meet and have had to take out yet another loan. Fools."carpe that diem"0 -
Seems a bit bizarre that people might scoff at others for borrowing books from a library. I suppose everyone's so used to their Yuppie'd out the eyeballs Starbucks-slash-Borders jazzfests.
If I actually read I tend to borrow from my brother or wait until Christmas / Birthday, if - like some of you - I was a regular reader the library would actually be my first port of call, not the book-shop.
Some folks, eh?

Borrow a book or pay £5 to £10 for the privilege?
I know what I would rather do!0 -
I love the library too. I order dvd's ( bogof £2 for 2 for a week!) and books online for me and my kids and pick them up at my local library. I can happily spend a saturday afternoon on a microfiche reader in mine looking at 100 year old local newspapers - I love local history
