I have just been looking through my old DVD/CD/Game collection, in a bid to rid my home of some clutter and maybe top up the coffers a bit during my own little financial crisis (the wife).
In a bid to find somewhere on line, i typed a few well chosen keywords into google, and it came up with a few results. One of these results was the recently advertised on this website, musicmagpie.co.uk.
They are offering cash for all the items i was looking to move... so i sat down, with a pile of about 70 DVDs, and a bunsh of season boxsets to flog! The website asks you to type in the barcode of each item, and it then calculates what they will offer you.
i was fairly open minded with the first few barcodes, as they were single DVDs andnot really of any value, but as i went through my pile, there were offers of literally pence for DVDs of less than 6 months old, that were originally about £13. It got worse, as i started on my collection of box sets, i thought they would be wort a fair bit more... ONLY JUST!!!!
The cheek of them, offering me £3 as a maximum for anything i listed... and in some cases there were box sets that are selling on line for approx £80.
I shook my head in misbelief, cursing the past hour of my life lost to a rip off website.
I urge any of you looking at this site, not to give in, be strong, and head for your local boot sale... or ebay... or even friends/family!

Why don't you try Amazon? That's where MMP sell!
Your problem is you're selling to a middle man, and they're going to quote you prices that allow them to make a profit. It would be crazy otherwise. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Try CEX

or list them on Amazon Marketplace or Playtrade instead

I shall look at those alternatives. Thank you.0

I sold about 150 CDs through them the service was prompt and I got a cheque no problem, I could ahve sold them on eBay or Amazon but as far as I was concerned it was too much hassle and they might not all sell.
I agree the prices weren't great but it worked for me overall...2p off is still 2p off!0 -
I bought cooking guide for the DS a while ago, and found I didn't really like it. Musicmagpie offered me 50p for it... it's still selling at around £25 in shops! After checking out playtrade (it's selling at £13.95 on there) I'm going to sell via the alternatives. I have a few games and dvds to sell, not enough to make a quick sale worth that much!0

This site is only really best to sell music CDs on.
You can still get decent prices for dvds/games on ebay but music cds hardly sell these days online, amazon etc so you should only really look to use magpie for CDs.0 -
I would try amazon first, you pay no fees if it doesn't sell. Early last year we made almost £500 selling loads of books/dvds/cd's/boxsets on Amazon. Think happy & you'll be happy

As someone who sells CDs & DVDs on Ebay, I have to disagree with you there. Used CDs have pretty much held their price in the 5 years I've been doing it, while DVDs are fast becoming a waste of time (unless they're boxsets). With supermarkets selling DVDs for a couple of quid & newspapers giving some great films away, they really have very little value these days.
Also, CDs still have a collectable value to them, while very few DVDs have this.0 -

Random test...
Stop the Clocks by Oasis.
MMP offers: 50p
Lowest price on Amazon (not counting fees deducted, and postage allowance added): £1.87

I also disagree with human123's claim that music cd's don't sell.
Last Feb I sold a single cd - Iris by The Goo Goo dolls for £5.99!! I doubt I paid that new.
I sold an album by Five - Greatest Hits for £2.99.
I think CD's sell okay on Amazon. I don't really use ebay because I hate that you have to pay fees even if it doesn't sell. Think happy & you'll be happy
