it's quite clear from the details that have been released this weekend on the assets insured by taxpayers - with 83% of these loans coming from the "HBOS legacy book" - that HBOS would have been 100% nationalised were it not for the Lloyds takeover.

This could be read two ways, awful and dam awful but timing might be that hbos is history and its legacy is negative but the future could be positive if lloyds can reverse the damage ?

Hbos was about twice the size of lloyds afaik

My IFA informed me a couple of weeks ago that he had just bought some shares in banks ( not that he was advising me to do so, I hasten to add ) so obviously he has money to gamble with.

    Hope it's his own. :rotfl:

You're not really supposed to give share tips on here but I'd be looking at FT-SE 100 companies that pay a dividend of at least 5% but avoiding the bank and insurance sectors.. There's alot of them right now, maybe BP or Vodafone

Yields are retrospective and not guaranteed. Look at the cover, the eps, the cashflow, the book value vs share cap & the sector forecast

iii is probably the best place for literally sorting stocks by finance stats

If you want high yield regardless of other factors then you could buy NU or http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=AV.L who have promised to pay a very high yield and they go ex-div next month I think
