doctors are pretty switched on, people with depression don't go to the doctors and go 'im depressed' it doesn't work that wayNever Say Die I've tried it and it doesn't actually make people die0

I agree with all the comments upthread.
You may also want to point out to him that if he is signed off work with "depression", it will go on his medical records. In future, when he tries to take out permanent health insurance and similar insurance cover, he will be asked to declare whether or not he has ever suffered from depression or other mental illness and has ever had to take time off work for it. If he doesn't want to invalidate the insurance, he will have to answer yes, which will increase his premiums and/or affect his ability to get cover - for the rest of his life. That's the price he'll pay for dishonesty now.0 -
I think it is unlikely he will get anything out of it benefit wise - plus you have to pay for the antidepressants on prescription and most have quite nasty side effects (including not being able to drink at all on some of them).
Whilst I think what he is proposing is morally wrong, I don't think apealling to his morals would dissuade him - the above information might!
As someone has said - it is not your problem if he tries this against your advice but if he does go ahead with it I'd shop him anonymously to the benefit fraud team!0 -
People like him make me sick. My husband has bi polar and has had some very dark episodes of depression which included suicide attempts.
If he does claim benefits then report him.I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

Maybe he is actually depressed but doesn't want to admit it to his friends. If his friends found out he was off work he would have a lot off explaining to do to them and maybe saying he's faking it will give him some breathing space.Torgwen..........

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
WHy would he need to fake depression to quit the job... or is he trying to claim some sort of sickness pay?
I'm 21.......... wouldn't even dream of considering that! Sounds like he needs a good kick up the !!!!
i cant answer the question as id only just found out last night, im trying to think of a way of talking to him about it, i do think hes grown up a little too fast in my opinion, he moved out of his parents when he was 17 and moved in with girlfriends flat then he decided to get a place of they're own so they moved into they're own place, plus he got engaged to his gf, he should have stayed at home or with 1 of his cousins rather than moving into his own place,0 -
