heehee, that's just what I did, I politely suggested that as I'm unable to offer any discount, he should get the item from the other seller.0 -

wow! I wish I had your kind of luck Deepaktailor and Sarahsaver. I've been selling (if you can call it that) for about 3 months now and have had more returns and no sales than anything else.
People just send things back for no good reason e.g. "I don't like it" and because of the number of no sales the things I do sell just about cover the listing fees for all the unsold stuff.
I try to make good descriptions, use pics etc and have tried small and big things at prices that I know compare well. But its so depressing when things come back or don't sell.
Incidentally the people who buy and keep the things are very complimentary so I don't think I'm doing too much wrong.......Stop looking for answers....
The most you can hope for are clues.....:)0 -

It sounds like you are far to nice with your returns, I try to avoid returns at all costs.
I say you make sure you give them no reason to return it. I mean "I don't like it!", if they told me that well i'm sorry its tough! lol0 -
but wouldn't you then get crap feedback?
Do you have a returned policy at all? should I ditch mine? Maybe I don't need it......Stop looking for answers....

I do have a returns policy but then again I never really get asked. The only times I have been asked if they could return an item when they are usually from the USA and can't play the DVD because its wrong region. I make it clear in all my auctions that I don't accept returns for this reason, its not my problem if they don't have a region free player or don't read the auction proper.
I have only had one return from around 2000 sales and I was too nice with that one, but of course if the item is damaged in the post I can't have that so they can return it yes....if they want.
As for feedback I don't do too bad. 3 negs out of 1270, 2 came from an ebook I was selling which I now don't and the other 1 from some idiot who neg'ed be right after clicking buy it now because they could not combine purchases.0 -
I have no stated refund policy at all. I have had no more than two (I think) people ask outright for a return and one i agreed to as she had a genuine reason for the return but the second one I refused and she just left me positive feedback anyway.
However, both those refund requests were purely change of mind, when a buyer says that something is damaged I would refund as soon as I got the item back, but don't feel the need to advertise the fact.
If that makes sense?

Soo
That does make perfect sense. I am like you I don't advertise any returns policy, I just play it by ear if there is a problem that arrises.
The other poster needs to remember hes running a business not a charity, from the comment about he returns taking his profits, he needs to be less easy with returns or the selling will not be rewarding enough to carry on long term.0 -

Your post perfectly illustrates what we always tell newbies about sourcing items. I wouldn't know a 'good' car brochure if I fell over it in a pub car park and it bit me on the leg, but for someone with an interest in cars you may know about which to keep and how to advertise them.
A niche market is a good market :j
well done.
