Quite easy by car , freeway takes you pretty much all the way from Toronto .
Plus a car is useful at the falls ,Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
If you do go by car make sure you make a stop off in Niagara on the lake. Its great! Really lovely little old town america style place. With a great fudge/sweet shop. They do homemade fudge, it is made in the back and tastes great. Makes good presents.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090

can you drive in canada on a uk licence and is the photocard part enough or would you need to produce both parts?0 -

Always take both parts but there is a good chance you wil only be asked for the photcard. Of the times I have ben to North America have been asked more times then not to produce both parts."Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

We went by train, fast and cheap and didn't need a car at all at the Falls, just walked0

I was at Niagara a couple of years ago, I got a hotel outside the town and used the bus and a tour to get around, it gave me a break from driving for a couple of days.
I took the Grayline Presidential Tour when there, it was a bit expensive but we went everywhere and always to the front of the line as well, lunch and dinner included as well as drinks on the coach and the guide was terrific.0 -
I went in August last year and got the train from toronto - 10 mins in a taxi to central falls area from the station (which is tiny) we stayed on fallsview bLvd and walked everywhere loads of stuff to do, the bus tours are quite reasonable so really its down to wether you want to be bothered driving or noti'm living in a parallel universe0

we did the Amtrak train for the journey - hubby was really chuffed every time the whistle blew, as it's the same as in the movies, hehe! They give the kids an activity pack that has a build-up card train in it - DD was well chuffed, so much so she was still playing with it when we were oohing and aahing over the falls from our bedroom window - not as cool as Amtrak's free gift.

The tickets you buy to get into the attractions at Niagara include free buses so transport is easy and cheap. Niagara on the LAke seems to be a big draw for Americans, but we have a local shopping area that has lovely little shops just like Niagara on the Lake, so weren't too fussed by it.
The Fort at Niagara on the lake was good - and it has a beer store there too, (drink seemes to be hard to come by in Canada - government run shops, alcohol not available in the supermarket) so we clinked our way round the fort with our carry out.:rotfl: Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

When we did the same we got the bus down. The buses are much more frequent, cheaper, and I don't think take that much longer.0

We also got a bus to Niagara Falls from Toronto. It was cheap and a reasonably short journey. The falls are stunning but the town of Niagara Falls is tacky and touristy. In contrast the neighbouring town of Niagara on the Lake is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon.0
