Giving my upgrade to teen son?
Hi, I wonder if you can help
I have a Motorola E550 on T-Mobilr pay monthly, and I'm quite happy with it.
They have offered me an upgrade, one of the phones being the new motorola SLVR( that very thin bronze phone)
My son has no phone(his was stolen 2 weeks ago) and I'd like to give my upgrade to him, and keep my current phone and sim.
If it's a TMobile upgrade, would he have to buy a T mobile sim? Or could he use any sim( I don't know if this phone can be unlocked)
Has anyone else done this with an upgrade? Can I request a free pay as you go sim from T mobile, claiming i want to use it for my old mobile??
Any advice greatly appreciated!!

I've upgraded with T-mobile in the past and given the upgrades to the kids. I was told you should make at least one phone call with your SIM card in the new phone, so T-mobile know you've accepted the upgrade phone for yourself.
Then you just put your Sim card back in your old phone and pass the new phone to your son.
I doubt T-mobile will give you a free SIM card, but no harm in asking.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. You can certainly pass on your upgrade to your son, as any phone supplied by the mobile operators is yours to do with as you wish from day, contract or upgrade.
If this phone is not easy to unlock so that you could use any networks SIM, you could try using a free Free Virgin SIM because I believe that a Virgin SIM will work in a T-Mobile handset without unlocking but not the other way around. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I didn't get a free sim, but got one with free weekend texts for teen son for just £2.49!
New phone is coming tomorow, so one happy teenager0 -
Still time to apply for the free sim using the link in expresso's post, worth doing as it has £5 free credit0
