I've recently installed a Belkin 54g wireless router. I can get an excellent signal on my PC upstairs, but the box regularly loses connection (this is cured by turning the power off and on at the socket)
but i'm getting sick and tired of making frequent trips up and down the stairs (not easy when your on crutches with a broken leg.)
Has anyone else has a similar problem? and can anyone make a suggestion of what to do?
I've tried several times to phone Belkin, but always get an automated message saying that "their far too busy"

Yes me too and it only started happening recently, I blame BT, and send the DH to switch it off and on. If anyone has a fix please post it0 -
I take it you have tried changing the channel it uses in the Admin Panle for the router ??Ex forum ambassador

Is this the connection between the laptop and router, or the connection between router and ISP?
start, run, cmd
ping -t 192.168.2.1 would still work if it was the BB connection dropping
have you tried a right click and repair on the wireless icon?
If you are using belkin/netgear/dongle software to manage the wireless connection, try letting windows manage it instead.
Are you using usb dongle/pc-card/built-in wireless?
Have you tried changing channels.
Do your neighbours have wireless. If so, find out what channel they are on using netstumbler, and try and choose a channel 5 channels apart 1,6,11 etc..

Have you upgraded the firmware on the router.
Do you have encryption enabled, if so which type. Is ssid broadcasting disabled.
Do you have a DECT phone/video sender? turn them off..
Do you have all phones/modems plugged into adsl filters (assuming BT line, not cable).Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

a) Would that solve the problem
and b) How do you do it?0 -
We had a problem with a phone charger being plugged into the other half of the double socket where the DECT phone mains was plugged in a few weks ago.
We have no other wireless networks near us and in our case the router drops the phone line for no apparant reason.0 -

Belkin Users::
1. in the address bar in IE type: 192.168.2.1
2. click on settings in the wireless subpanel of the webpage that appears
3. change the number in the dropdown box
4. click apply changes0 -
I've spoken to Belkin loads of times to get my wireless network set up properly and it still spends more time losing the connection than it spends connected.
My ISP is Virgin Media, who told me that wireless connections are unreliable. Is it anything to do with the fact that I have an old cable modem (Motorola Surfboard about 8" square!!), is it VM,are Belkin wireless systems rubbish, or am I missing something? I'm sure other people don't have this much trouble and I only want to network 2 PCs.
Can anyone help?I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.
