Too scared to work out what I owe

We have children used to a good life which is difficult to change as they dont realise the debt we are in but I keep reminding him of our older life how we will live with these huge debts how do i make him see sense?
sorry I am the miserable one now
Any suggestions ?
Thanks!
I am so sorry to see that your OH is not seeing how much your situation is affecting you. Someone on here (I think it was FrugalFox, my apologies if it wasn't) told me that this is your lightbulb moment and you can't expect your OH to see things the same way as you right now. His time will come when he's ready.
Personally, I found that useful. Also once I started getting my head around my debts, I felt calmer and was able to discuss things with my OH better than before. When he saw this thread tonight, I think he realised more than ever before how stressed/worried/upset I really am about my/our situationand he wants to help.
Perhaps it would help if you wrote how you feel and what your worries are and showed it to your OH. I hope you sing from the same hymn sheet soon, it helps tremendously.
Hugs and chin up, things will get better.Leason learnt :beer:0 -

Hi Moozie,
Martin's Money Saving Tips is an email emailed to thousands (or tens of thousands probably) of people about urgent money saving tips of the week - i.e. great balance transfer deals, freebies, home phone offers - just depends whats up that week.
Here is the link to the latest (where your thread is mentioned):
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1140541598,83285,
and you can view past tips emails there too.
Make sure you sign up to get yours. I signed up for 6 issues of Red magazine last week for £6 and am getting a free Decleor gift set work £49 (apparently) - this was one of the tips. I read this magazine anyway (but I was trying to resist buying it!) - but this was such a great offer.
You can find a link to sign up from the link above.

OK the Sainsburys one first!
You borrowed £14,352 over 42 months. Now without the interest payments this works out at £341.71 (£14,352 divided by the 42 months). So every month out of your £386.12 payment, £341.71 is off the amount you borrowed and the remaining £44.41 is interest.
Then all you do is multiply the number of months you have paid this off (24 months) by the £341.71 figure which equals £8,201.04. You then subtract this off the amount you borrowed (£14,352) = £6,150.96
Do the same for Tesco!
£7,500 divided by 42 months = £178.57
£178.57 multiplied by the number of months you have paid off (7) = £1,250
Minus the £1250 from the original amount of £7500 = £6,250!
Now I know the Tesco one is lower than what I said last night!I'll have to blame it on tiredness!
The best way to confirm this would be to phone both the companies and ask the for a settlement figure! It might include a month or 2's of interest but at least you'll know the rough figure!
Makes perfect sense now. I am really thankful, I couldn't have worked it out like that without your explanation :kisses3:Leason learnt :beer:0 -

OK now I feel really silly. Thank you very much for showing me. I can't believe my post was chosen to be on there! It's quite an odd feeling - I just hope others find the advice I have been getting as useful as I have.scottishspendaholic

Re. signing up for tips! The best news is that if you sign up for the email tips thing this week, then Martin and MSE will donate money to charity as it's the website's birthday or something - that's got to be good - so I'm going to try and get 10 people to sign up and that'll be £5.
See Martin's thread at the top of the Debt Free Wannabe board for more info.

Its a deal with you all the way on this one and look forward to us both getting there  I've just noticed southernscouser has the same date as me as well so we might be having to have an online shindig :rotfl: The thing I find so inspiring about this site is a lot of us are all in the same boat (up to ours necks in it!) but people still have time to help others. It really restores your faith in society when you are at your lowest ebb there are total strangers reaching out to pick you up :T0
