Right i think i have made up my mind about the trip it will go in this order and stay in these places i think. If you can recommend places to stay or the best areas to stay in Santa Barbara, LA, SD and Yosemite National Park thank you.
    • San Francisco
    • Yosemite National Park
    • Monterey
    • Santa Barbara
    • Los Angeles
    • San Diego
    • San Francisco (Flight)

I think you have made a good choice flying back. The only places I could recommend are Hotel Carlton in SF (if you haven't got one already) and Blue Butterfly Inn, near Yosemite. Have a great trip !

  • You might find it better to route it:
    San Francisco
    Yosemite
    San Diego
then back up the coast to
    Los Angeles
    Santa Barbara
    Monterey
    San Francisco

Otherwise you'd be zigzagging across California - which great though it is, will eat into your holiday time.

  • We did the trip last year, starting in San Francisco was very cold but sunny went in June, and had to look for warm weather clothing! Picked up a car in SF after we stayed 4 nights, have to say this wasnt our favourite city! Some nice areas, lots of beggars harranguing tourists! Didnt feel very safe at all. Went to Monterey from there driving the coastal route. Drove as far as Monterey, which was nice still chilly, visited Carmel which was lovely and very quaint, wished we had stayed there! But expensive! Nice beach. Drove to Santa Barbara, which we loved, did various touristy bits, whale watching (sea sick) was sunny but chilly. Then continued down coastal route to San Diego, absolutely beautiful and somewhat (scary) (driving) scenery.

Loved San Diego, not Sea World (wont do that again) and then drove up to LA having a few days there doing touristy bits. Like LA better than SF. Maybe we were lucky.

I also liked LA and it's surrounding area better than San Francisco. So many people had told me that SF was their favourite city and they were sure I'd love it but I obviously didn't see what they saw in it.
San Diego was lovely. We didn't go to Sea World but went to the zoo instead and we all enjoyed the day there.
