San Diego is another story - GO GO GO!!!
If you want to go to Disneyland (Universal is way better) then Anaheim is acutally closer to SD than LA and can do in a day.
San Diego = must do the day-trip to Tiajuna, mad but a real experience.
LA is good for one thing - the flight home
We're off to NYC, LV , SD and LA next week.......... thought about going to Tiajuna but read on the web that its pretty dodgy and there have been shootings during the day.0 -
Like a poster has already said, LA is not up to much. Big high rise office blocks and thats it! Big disappointment:o
Rodeo drive and all the shops are worth a visit in Beverly Hills. If you have a car too drive up and around the hills. You get some amazing views.
Muscle beach is also worth going and visiting!
I went to Sequioas national park. It was a great experience going there, the drive up to it is amazing and the trees are the highest in the world. The Grand Sherman is just HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
San Deigo is good for bars and a few beers - go see the San Diego Padres Baseball team play if you can, i really enjoyed that!!!!!:T0 -
I love California, this year will be my 8th visit. My favourite places are Monterey and San Luis Obispo but the whole central coast is beautiful. I'm sure you'll like San Diego too I'd stay there as it's not to far to drive to LA if you fly from there. LA does have some attractions but it's not high on my must see places. Tijuana is an experience but if you're pressed for time I wouldn't bother. When I went a few years ago we parked near the border and got a bus into Mexico. The whole time we were followed by begging children or had guys hassling us to have our photo taken with what appeared to be a donkey painted to look like a zebra! Every 4th or 5th shop seemed to be selling prescription drugs at much cheaper prices than in the US, bargin prozac or viagra anyone?! A guy outside a strip club asked us if we were on honeymoon before trying to persuade us to come in for the lunch time session, this was at 11.30 in the morning! Mid afternoon we decided to head back to the USA and it took us about 3 hours to get through customs and immigration. I wouldn't bother if I were you.0

I would recommend a trip to Yosemite National Park - truly amazing!
We did the drive from SFO to LAX, stopping in Monterey and Santa Barbara - a rather condensed trip.
Stopped here for lunch - truly amazing views of the ocean and hummingbirds! https://www.lucialodge.com0 -
I stayed a month in San Diego a few years back - turns out I have relatives there...who knew? lol. Anyhow, nice place, but wouldn't spend more than a few days there...the zoo is great fun, and there's some nice beaches, etc.
If you're going to Santa Barbara, stay at the Super 8 motel...was about $100 a night when I stayed there which was around 4 years ago (my God has it been that long!) but was the cheapest place I could find...was also literally over the road from the beach, which was absolutely gorgeous! Lovely place, but expensive and not a whole lot to see!
Yosemite is definitely worth a visit...I did a day trip from San Fran with a tour company and loved it...even if the tour guide made a stop off at a random lake on the way back and decided to go skinny-dipping...utterly random! lol.
California is a nice state, but IMO there's nicer places to visit within the USA. Just depends what you're after I guess...being a music nut, I *loved* Nashville - especially as you could walk around downtown and didn't need a car0 -
big sur californiaDoing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
I agree with LB1985 - why not travel inland one way and back up the coast.
We went from SF to Lake Tahoe then down through Yosemite to Santa Barbara and back up the coast stopping in San Luis Obispo and Monterey. I have to say SF and Yosemite were by far the best bits of the two week trip. If you haven't been to Yosemite before it will blow you away. We spent 5 nights in the park (we didn't want to leave!) so you could easily do the trip in 7-8 days and still see everything.
Hearst Castle is a must as is the aquarium in Monterey. Try to fit in a spot of wine tasting too!
Have a fantastic trip (I'm SO jealous)
