My mum taught me this too, although to be honest she hasn't been nearly as sucessful at this as I have! Sorry to blow my own trumpet but I'm a good cook.Cooking without recipes might be an interesting subject for a thread.

    I think that's a great idea!

My mam only had the Bero baking book to her name, and she could have written that herself!! No scales iether - I used to dream of having lovely old style scales with brass weights when I gre up!! CHanged a bit now p plastic scales, donkeys years old and stuck in a cupboard!!

She encouraged my to 'just try a bit of that in it and see what happens!'

Have to say, my OH very adventurous at trying 'new recipes', but that does lead to some interesting combinations (especially with herbs and meat) that you would not think about................. :rotfl: I never knock it though!! Just happy to have someone else cook now and again!!

She has some good tips but is way too far up her own bottom!!! My home is clean and tidyish - as tidy as it can be with a 4 and 2 year old. I have drawing up the wall - so be it, my 2 year old experimented, got told no but it really is rather artistic and does make me smile each time I walk up the stairs!

Anthea would probably squeal in disgust as my children shake their glitter pots all over the table missing the paper completely and be horrified as they walked to the sink to wash the paints from their hands, touching the wall , the chair - so what it can be cleaned.

I have a quick whiz around every day, beds are made, dishwasher loaded, washing on, hoover, wash floors and other bits when necessary - i.e change beds but I won't spend hours, I'd rather spend the time with my kids making more mess and as for taking pictures dwon that your kids have done, my kitchen is a testimony to my kiddies artwork, it's everywhere!!!!

I would like to meet the "real person" who keeps her house clean, I don't believe she doesn't have a cleaner.

anyway, off to create a mess in the kitchen for dinner whilst my little ones are sleeping.

My late mum cooked without recipe books and her cooking was legendary ... for being so bad (she made up for it by being a wonderful seamstress, bless her).

As a result I have loads of recipe books .. I spend many a happy hour wandering through them and then go away and make my own versions up :rotfl:
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

I'm torn between loving & hating this programme, although either way, it's compulsive viewing:tongue:. I love it 'cos she is the queen of organized & I want her crown! I hate it 'cos she seems use weak targets to demonstrate her art. I honestly feel if she had children of her own she'd think differently.

I hate the way she says pla-r-stic (it's PLASTIC for Gods sake). What is the point of folding your towels in the shapes of bloody Hippos or whatever???? As long as it's neatly (and symetrically in my case;)) folded, does it matter? Who is going to go out & spend a fortune on wooden & padded coat hangers when shops give away wire & plastic (or pla-r-stic if you really must) ones for free & you can wrap & sellotape free plastic (or pla-r-stic) bags round to pad them where necessary? Baskets are great for clutter, but not in the kitchen. And for hiding your spare loo rolls?? Personally I'd rather be able to see the spare loo roll in my friends houses than have to search around for it whilst drip-drying:shocked:!! What's wrong with keeping the cats litter box in the downstairs loo? Better than in the kitchen surely!! In Anf's world do her friends think that cat's don't pee maybe:wall:

I would really love my cupboards & drawers to be as organized & clutter free as she promotes, but family life causes clutter and better the clutter is hidden behind closed doors than on display:idea:

BUT after all that, I do think she is going some way to promote the lost art of keeping a house & running a home:T, something so sadly lost to the wonders of the consumer world now. I can't say I particually like or dislike her, she is a TV presenter doing her job,she is at the very least passionate about what she is saying, and judging for a couple of recent guest appearences she seems to have a sense of humour & can take the micky out of herself about her obsession:grin: (which I do think is verging on OCD). But to kid us that she looks after that lovely house all on her own without a cleaner, gardener, florist, catering company for dinner parties etc etc etc....Yeah. Right!!!!!:naughty::think::whistle::rotfl:

Out of curiosity, where do you think is a good place to keep the cat litter tray?

They're attention seeking volunteers and deserve no sympathy.

As far as I'm concerned, one of life's eternal mysteries is why people like their cats peeing and defecating in their house !

she is a TV presenter doing her job,she is at the very least passionate about what she is saying
She'd be sacked if she wasn't enthusiastic. First lesson in media school is to learn false sincerity.

Is the program a refugee from Planet Zanussi ?

Best place for a cat litter tray? About 500 yards from any dwelling place. :)

DD's dad stayed over last night to babysit and dd made him a little bag with a flannel, soap and a toothbrush. He was v impressed.

I have spent much of the day folding laundry, decluttering the kitchen drawer and putting cd's away. Mine are alphabetised anyway, always have done so as it is easier to find them then. Unfortunately the reason I have been able to do this is because DS1 is poorly so no-one is bothering me much today. And DD represented our City in a cross country event. And where are her trainers...caked in mud...
IN a carrier bag in the hall way;)

I really enjoy watching this programme, I think its full of good tips (though obviously anyone on here knew them already) some bits are annoying but I just fast forward.

Its sad that people do need to be taught how to hoover but I guess we are all different. I like my house to be clean and tidy - I can relax much better in it when it is - but no way is my house like AT's - mine still looks lived in. But am also quite happy sitting round my friends who has a completely different approach to housework than me - ie does none - suits her and thats fine.

If the programme really annoyed me I would quite simply turn it off.
