  • I usually fill the cups from half to three quarters full. This allows room for the yorkies to rise and puff up. Any less than this and they are flat.

Depends on the size of the tin, but only a small amount approx a dstspoonful or tblspoonfull.

  • I never go by time cos my oven is rubbish!! I usually just keep an eye on them through the oven door and lift them out when all puffed up and golden. It also depends how well done you like them.

A trick i learned from Jamie Oliver. Fill the top 3 cups with oil, then tip the tray and let the oil drizzle into the remaining cups, this should be the right amount for the yorkies. I then fill them to the top (once the oil is really hot) and bung them in the oven, until they have risen and are golden, how long that is tends to depend on how hot my oven has been, anywhere between 20 - 40 mins!!!!

Well, they've been eaten but they werent great. Must have done something wrong.

The mixture was really thick, is that normal? Also, they werent like the ones in shops, kind of bowl shaped, they were more like scones or something and most definately not light-lol.

    Any pointers????

  • Hi KC

I now that you dont need this but the recipe that I have used (from a hamlyn cookbook)

4 oz plain flour mixed with 2 eggs and quarter pint of milk until smooth

    then add

a quarter pint of milk and water (mixed together to make a quarter pint)

I leave this for half an hour or so

oil into tins (used to be 12 small ones) but bought 2 tins for 4 large ones

inot hot oven until risen and golden

have only made them 3 times but have been great all times

I am going to use this tomorrow for Toad in the Hole
