No carer's allowance is a seperate payment from DLA.

No - as Zara33 has already said. However the person who told you that may have been confused eg by someone (on IS) who is treated as LIVING ALONE and another person claiming CA for them - in that case their Income Support would go down.

However, given that you are 5 months pregnant, I'd be inclined to have CAB or welfare benefits to a 'better off' calculation. If you have paid enough NI contributions in the relevant period you could be entitled to Maternity Allowance, but I'm not sure what happens if you are claiming CA too.

if you have a Disability Action Group (DAG) in your area they will help you get what your entitled to, it may be that he's getting an extra component as part of his incapacity and it wont be any different if you calim carers allowance, you need to find someone in your area who will help you do a benefits check
