Question about postage from Greece

I won an auction just a few minutes ago. On the auction listings it states its coming from Greece and its free P&P, however the seller states in the listing that this is actually wrong and that P&P to the UK is £5. If i want it sent registered its £6.50. I was always under the impression that anything coming from Europe would be sent with a tracking number anyway, so is there really a difference?

I also noticed they have one negative feedback from someone who bought shoes from them and apparantly they had sent the box with no shoes in them. It is a vinyl lp ive bought but im just unsure on which p&p to pay and if anything does go wrong, obviously id wanna get my money back.

As a buyer you do not need to pay any optional extra for any form of tracking or insurance. It isn't normal practice for stuff to be automatically sent tracked within Europe, I certainly never bother, but it is anyway for the sellers protection not yours. However, the seller can't say free listing then add more later, but this is something that has probably stopped many people bidding and you can question this with the seller or just pay up.

I've been buying DVDs recently and it is amazing how many people say in their listings that they don't agree with the ebay free p and p policy and want buyer to pay £2 more when auciton closes..on yer bike! I wonder if they know why people don't bid on their stuff anymore?

I would be more worried about the previous neg however it is a bit late now to worry as you've already committed yourself.

OOoh wait a minute. I didnt know about this free p&p policy. Is this compulsary? Or are buyers allowed to get around this? And also telling me not to pay until ive got an invoice, if i payed before it is there anything they could do to me?

Just pay the £5 and be done with it. We all know standard airmail is expensive.

Don't pay for recorded: a) not worth it b) will cover you in the unlikely case of an empty shoebox.

I am muddying the waters here as I am busy buying DVDs and read your first post and answered with my DVD hat on. DVDs listed on ebay.uk must have free postage, music is however different and I don't think the postage is even capped there at all, so ignore me!

Reading the cut and paste I am assuming he wants £5 for standard airmail and £6.50 for tracked, but it isn't awfully clear.

This isn't feeling good though and I'm sure many buyers will have avoided this auction. He is unsure where he is and is also unsure what postage he needs to charge..hmmm.

Well i wasnt notified by ebay on any free p&p policy and why would the auctions be listed as free postage anyway? Is that ebays way of saying it should be free or is it a case of (like i thought) someone struggling to use the site. From what ive read from a few sites online the free postage thing is about media products, last time i checked vinyl was right alongside cassettes and cds in the search listings. So IMO it is considered media. And all this stuff about, dont pay until i send an invoice. Hes trying to make more money off me. Ive sent records to Europe before and its only cost just over £3.

Thankyou of informing me of this policy

i'm unclear on the listing - it says 5gbp for the item but next line down
    add 2gb for dvd/lp/cd
so does that mean its actually £7?

have you had the invoice yet?
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

Music isn't free post and packing, sorry I misled you. I won't alter my post though as it will make the thread look odd.

DVDs are required to have free p and p music is capped (see even my correction was wrong, you can tell I don't buy much music on ebay!).

    Here is the announcement:

    http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200810131014412.html

    Music has a capped costs
    1. The introduction of maximum costs for domestic P&P in the following categories:
      • Books, Comics and Magazines
      • DVD, TV and Film
      • Music
      • Videogames
      • Mobile and Home Phones
It doesn't matter where your seller is , if he sells by logging into Ebay.uk he must abide by those rules and can't charge any more than ebay allow. I sell books on ebay.com and I am capped on postage there as I am bound by those rules even though I am actually shipping from the UK and have to pay airmail postage.

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/maximumPP_FAQ.html#CBT

How will limits on P&P charges affect my cross-border sales?
Maximum P&P charges should not affect your cross border business. Sellers will be required to set at least one domestic postage cost under limit, and can set alternative options for expedited and/or international postage. International sellers listing directly on eBay.co.uk will be subject to postage cost limits on their first domestic postage cost.

    Music
    Subcategory
    Maximum Postage and Packaging Charge
    Cassettes
    £2.00
    CDs
    £2.00
    Records
    £4.00
    Music Memorabilia
    £4.00
    Other Music Formats
    £4.00
    Accessories/ Storage
    £4.00

So it looks like vinyl has a maximum p and p charge of £4 when listed on ebay.uk

Here is an example of one of their listings. But i have no idea of knowing if it was ebay.co.uk they listed the items from. All i know is that it was part of the ebay uk search results. Ive no invoice yet.
