Remember that a 5p minimum charge applies on BT and TT, so both these 1 minute will actually cost 5p.bbb_uk wrote:Remember that calls to non-geographical numbers (those very, very common numbers beginning 08x) - which are used by most companies (banks, etc) and gov depts are generally cheaper on BT with the exception of one or two occasions.
A quick example is that a 1min call to an 0845x number will cost 3p/min on BT and I think its 4.5p/min on TT.
The full TalkTalk price list can be found here (in PDF).
For 0870, it costs the same on TalkTalk and BT Together tariffs. Rates are:
Daytime 7.51p/min, evening 3.75p/min, weekend 1.50p/min
For 0845, it costs 50% more at all times to use TalkTalk than it does to use BT on a Together tariff. This could be to take 'advantage' of all those on 0845 dial-up.
Rates for 0845 are:
BT Daytime 3p/min, evening 1p/min, weekend 1p/min
TT Daytime 4.5p/min, evening 1.5p/min, weekend 1.5p/min
Oh and BT Together Option 1 pricing information is here.

I'd forgotten about that.DonnyDave wrote:Remember that a 5p minimum charge applies on BT and TT, so both these 1 minute will actually cost 5p...
The average call is 2minutes or over so below is pricing on a call to an 0845 for both 2mins, 3mins & 4mins (daytime and including the minimum call charge):-
A two minute call to an 0845 will cost 6p on BT but 9p on TT.
A three minute call to an 0845 will cost 9p on BT but 13.5p on TT.
A four minute call to an 0845 will cost 12p on BT but 18p on TT.
...etc....
I agree. Very devious of them if this is reason behind the 1.5p extra charge per minute.DonnyDave wrote:...This could be to take 'advantage' of all those on 0845 dial-up....0
