This is a spinpoint drive which has a reputation for being fast and quiet (more quiat then the barrcudas!).
Looks like a very good deal - cheaper than my 120Gig drive 3 months ago.0 -
Personally, I like Seagate Barracudas. They are fast, reliable, and very very quiet.0

Please excuse my stupidity but if it has two platters of 125Gb then is that not 250Gb total?charlie12 wrote:No that's referring to the platters - it contains two platters with a max of 125GB on each, 200GB total.
I know computing is not simple but surely this is a strange way to describe a 200Gb driveOnly time will tell if I am right or they are wrong0 -
Maximum of 125GB per platter for this hard drive range (The Spinpoint P120 series)
This 200GB drive uses 100GB out of the maximum 125GB per platter and there's two of them, making 200GB total. The 250GB version uses the same platters but uses the full 125GB capacity making 250GB total.
The platters are located in the same drive, you can't tell from the outside and it's normal to have multiple platters in large drives.
I agree that it is a strange description, they shouldn't have mentioned this in the spec, it just confuses things!0 -
Is this anygood for my Sky+ box need to upgrade the hard drive its getting a bit full

Gem+Dave+Kaci wrote:Sorry it's a bit of a technical question, but how easy it is to copy the whole of one drive onto another one?
I could do with a bigger hard drive but I'm worried about losing everything!!
Hi Gem+ Dave etc...
DONT copy the contents of your drive. Add this one as well.
Copy the content over by all means, but keep the op sys on the smaller drive but use this for storage.
I'm sure many on here would agree that to be the best option."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -

One of the reasons people LIKE Samsungs apart from quietness is that they continued to offer a 3 year warranty at a time when others were retrenching back to 1 year.
"Should you have problems ... contact the Samsung Customer Care Team on 0870 242 0303 who will be happy to help. Please have your full Samsung model number and serial number, date and place of purchase and a brief description of the fault/ query ready when contacting our Service Team."
There's also a whole set of DOS/Windows software to test/diagnose/setup discs on the Samsung site.
Personally have added 3 x 120GB Samsung drives to Tivo PVRs - and only fault I've ever had is MY failing to set the drive to its acoustic quietest (ie VERY quiet).0 -

I also like Samsungs for this reason, I have had to use the returns service once, and it is fast and hassle free, top marks to Samsung.

Sounds like a good price, but I still haven't managed to work out what the fuss is all about with external hard disks. Aside from the fact that they are obviously more portable. Why would I want a portable one. I commute to work so I could take everything back and for but it seems easier to move only the files I want which easily fit on a pen drive. Can anyone convince me of why I might want one. I'm probably being stupid, but aren't they slower, more likely to be stollen and not particularly practical? There is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0
