Small Claims against car thief?
Could I get some advice? My car was broken into last June, the window was smashed and the stereo stolen. The thief was later arrested for a different offence and admitted around 20 other car break-ins including mine.
Would it be possible to take him to small claims court to recover the cost of the broken window, stereo etc? What would be the best way to do this? I have used the MoneyClaim website to reclaim bank charges in the past and found this very easy to use.
One of my friends has suggested going to a 'No win no fee' claims company but I am a bit wary after hearing only bad things about them!
If anyone has any suggestions it would be muchly appreciated!

Total waste of time as most thieves are on benefits and therefore have no need to work as they get more from benefits and thieving.
They will have no assests you can claim against and you have no chance of getting money from them, a no win no fee ambulance chaser type firm will not take the case on as it has absolutely no chance of getting its fee from the scum.
Wouldnt even bother suggesting putting his windows in as that would be totally illegal and I would never suggest such a thing, you could cause him hassle by contacting the Inland Revenue and Benefits line and let them know he is working ?0 -

Wouldn't the amount of the claim be deducted from their benefits? I know it might be something like £5 a week but I can live with that. It would be nice to get some kind of'justice'.
As for putting in his windows I would never dream of such a thing! And I dont have his address........;):D:dance:0 -
Go for it hun, do it for the victims. He shouldn't be able to get away with it, it might force him to get a job?

your right nick, the only car crime the police are interested in is easy to target motorists who pay thier taxes and occasionally cross the speed limit then hit them for a fixed penalty fine and 3 points which increases your insurance premium for the next 5 years....work permit granted!0

Why are we plagued with !!!!!! like this who havent a clue, why is it in your opinion that the police are at fault ? What make you think the police are at fault, mate down the pub told you, heard it in a gay bar ?
The police arrest the scum and take them before the court made up of volunteer magistrates taken from members of the public. The police do not sentence, the magistrate does! you the members of the public who make up the magistrates.
So what are you suggesting 3am vigilante police death squads. Clearly one of the "I was only doing 31 mph" brigade "why arent you out catching proper criminals"
They did ? but you still whinge and whine.
Oh and yes, the missus got a fixed penalty and 3 points and yes I paid extra on the insurance for five years.... but at the end of the day she broke the law, and didnt claim the chav excuse of "it wasnt inappropriate speed" which no one yet has told me how that works, but that's another whinge from the great unwashed.0 -
