Apologies if this is a repost. Anyone got any view on this? Looks like a marketing 'wrapper' around BGs online, submit your own readings, no paper bills type product. Not sure how the discounts compare to other providers:

Our house is connected to an Independent Gas Transporter (IGT) for which ScottishPower have just started to charge a higher rate (+£40 per year) so am looking to switch to a provider who offers good rate for IGT gas.
I think that British Gas doesn't (currently) charge a higher rate for IGTs, any others out there?

I've been looking at this BG 'Click Energy' tariff too - the electricity prices are showing as the cheapest on the comparison sites for my area, by some way.
The prices shown are dated 1st March 2006, to apply from 20th March. Does anyone know if these prices have been increased recently in line with the current price increases, or are the increases on this tariff 'pending' ?0 -

I have gone with this as of today, as my standard Npower tarrif is terrible.
I think EDF are slightly cheaper unit rates in my area (Yorkshire) but the discounts that you get (at least in the first year) make Click Online a fair bit cheaper for me.
I will let you know how I get on. Its my first switch on my new house. I signed up using house.co.uk as there seems to be a £35 one of discount for doing it via house.co.uk.
I will cross my fingers the rates don't climb in the short term as this tarif has been introduce post BG rises.0 -
Hi,
I have just signed up to this and noticed there is a bit of a sting in the tail that BG want to set my DD at £30 a month, when I calculate my usage based on friends, family and colleagues to be around 3500-4000kwh.
The DD should actually be more like £22-25 a month based on the unit charges, do utility companies just set them high and hope you don't complain.
I have wrote back to BG saying I believe it to be way to high, do they even have to consider lowering it or can they just say "tough" (in which case I suppose i will have to cancel the application).
Cheers,
Mike0 -

I've had this a couple of times, the supplier wanting to up the DD more than necessary. I usually find that if you can justify your figures, they usually cave in and set the DD as you wish - but I've never had the dubious pleasure of trying it with BG...
If they don't want to play ball, you could always pay the £30 per month for the first quarter, then ask for them to drop it on the strength of your first bill's usage. The DD can be changed anytime, not just when they want to 'review' it.0 -

Yeh I did think of that actually, I'd rather not be paying £30 a month though but will see how it goes, after seeing how the switch goes. I will let you know.0 -
Funilly enough they have said £30 a month to me, and thats too high, but said i could choose the amount, so you could set the figure lower if you so wish.Pawpurrs x0

How can you possibly calculate your usage based on friends, family and colleagues? There are so many variables involved in your gas consumption involving cooking, hot water usage, heating temperatures, house insulation etc.
Anyway, better to pay a bit more and request it back than to pay low and have to make up a deficit.0 -

3,500 -4000 kWh(pa???) is less than 20% of the national average. Assuming gas is used for CH and H/W, I cannot possibly see how you and "your friends family and colleagues" use so little.
I am assuming that you are talking about Gas(like the OP) and not electricity?0 -
Thanks for the link to clickenergy on the house.co.uk website. I have been trying to find that all morning but for some reason, they don't seem to advertise or make it easy to find it on their website.0

I looked at click energy for electricy last week through the energyline link as I am currently with Southern Electric and have never changed before, this was coming up alot cheaper (the cheapest) so I have signed up for it with British Gas. :j
Was also considering changing Gas Supply from British Gas to NPower but after reading some of the reviews for them am having second thoughts so not sure what I'll do yet! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
