Working out Ebay postage?

Whilst I have purchased things from ebay in the past I have never sold anything (despite having lots to sell!) as I have no idea how people work out how much postage to charge...is there some way of working that out?

Remember to add a little bit on to cover packaging etc. I used to only charge just the cost of postage, but I realised I was doing myself out of money. I re-use all my packaging, but I was going through two rolls of packing tape a week!

Something sneaky I do is charge for packaging as if I am paying 50p for a padded envelope at my local post office, where really I am buying them for 5 for a £1 at the poundshop. :o Helps with the paypal and ebay fees. :A

I picked up a leaflet in the post office with all the current harges on it!!! I also add about 50p for packaging. Also be carefull when working out your fees, as the item will weigh more once it has been packaged up, ive been caught out by the package weighing more once ive wrapped it all up, and lost out a bit on the postage costs!!!!

• Hi all,
I shall move this to the Ebay board as it's better suited there ;)
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
• As others have said, it's safest to actually weigh your item first with any packaging it needs. This includes internal packaging such as bubble wrap, tissue paper, peanuts, etc. because they can add quite a bit to the weight of the overall parcel.

On the RM site it says you cant sent first class / first class recorded if it is over a kilo - does anyone know if they actually stick to this? Ive jost sold two books that come between 1.5 and 2 kilos and having to send them special delivery lol.
